bought an item (shirt) and it was from a new seller....
it had a stain and some "distressed material" i.e holes in the fabric that were not disclosed...also a little smelly.
advertised as a womans size small it was a man size small.
BUT.....over all its ok, I am not that fussy
got the stain out and washed it...as for the micro tears in the collor and lower hem
eh, its ok.
new new seller...did not charge enough for shipping.
I simply cannot leave a negative its not in my nature at all.
so what kind of feedback should I leave?

This is wrong and that is wrong and something else is wrong with the item....."but overall it's okay"?
No, it is NOT okay. You don't need to worry about feedback until you Go to the Resolution Center and open a case for Item Not as Described. Return this mistake and Get your money back.
New sellers need to learn what is right and wrong; unfortunately, you are the one who will have to apply this lesson. Don't let the seller get away with this or he will keep doing it until he wrecks his business.

@def.a.posting.id Before you do anything you might try and help the new Seller by messaging them and giving them a little education. Don't even mention Feedback in your correspondence with them just let them know what would be good in the future is to point out certain things.
I am impressed that you even came here with your post which tells me you may be willing to help and are obviously an objective person, not prone to fly off the handle at the slightest thing.
I have helped a number of New Buyers ... just had one who asked if I combined shipping, "yes, of course" and then gave them instructions on how to use checkout and request an updated total .... well, they still messed up and I got two separate orders so I simply shipped and refunded them the equivilent of what combined shipping would have been. They apologized and thanked me ...
I think there is a way to combine multiple purchases after the fact but if memory serves it was a bit conveluted so with limited time available I just shipped and refunded.

Normally I would agree with you, and I used to do the same thing, but the last few times I tried to help a new seller I was told essentially MYOB and to go ...umm...make whoopee with myself.
So yeah...a few years ago I would absolutely help a new seller out, even a direct competitor. Now...they can learn things the hard way.

So, the shirt had a stain, holes, and it smelled. Also it was listed as a womans size small, but was a mans size small.
You are ok with it, and are not that fussy.
You can't leave a neg because it's not your nature at all. ( even though the seller has earned a neg )
I'm not sure why you have bothered asking what type of feedback to leave.
But you never know, someone might advise you to leave the seller a glowing 5 star positive feedback, but it won't be me dishing out that advice.

The OP could politely give some valid education
and then, if receiving the same response you did,
then leave appropriate fb.

I wouldn't educate the seller.
The "new seller " label doesn't fool me, a lot of new sellers are out to fool buyers. There is some very shifty people behind those new accounts.
Oh, look at this old shirt in my drawer, it's stained, got holes, it smells a bit too.
I'll stick it on ebay, some sucker might buy it.

No way to really know if it's a new seller or not, so I stopped the helpful hints a long time ago.
If I was happy at all and willing to keep it, then I'd just not give feedback or you could consider a neutral with some of your grievances detailed in the comment.
One more thing, many sellers don't like getting bad feedback without receiving a message first, but since the defects went away, I'm not one of them. I see that only as a method to blackmail or get refunded.

thanks for all these replies...
I notice he ( I think its a he)
has a bunch of new listings up,
one is for a 14K antique necklace and he has 3 crummy pictures none of the gold stamp
I am pretty sure his 6 feedback with get a negative soon and he will be a -80?
the reason I am pretty sure its a new seller is because he only charged $3 to ship and it cost $7 priority mail....a seasoned seller wouldn't do that

You say you can't leave a negative so why ask what you should leave ? Only you can decide what to do. It was your purchase and your money.

With all due respect, Op said they washed it; thus cannot return. Item is not in original condition.
Your choice as to feedback, you can choose to not leave any. You can message the seller with your concerns, and tell them the pitfall of not describing properly. A neg can put a new seller out of business.

OP you seem like the most easy going person I have ever encountered. If I received a dirty, smelly, hole filled t-shirt I would be livid.
As the others have stated, you have a wide variety of options how to persue this.
Personally, no matter how mad I am, I try to write a calm message to the seller letting them know the issues and I act accordingly based upon how they respond and are willing to resolve any issues.
If a seller is kind and apologetic and offers a refund or wants the item returned, I am more than willing to comply. To date, I've rarely had any sellers who were not at least courteous enough to respond and be apologetic of any problems.

Evening,
Well I read what you said and normally I am the guy that tries to helps...metaphorically I am a St. Bernard...Mr C to the rescue...but not this time.
One small problem...okay even 2 little ones...maybe help them.
This is a careless and lazy seller that has no business being on ebay unless they quickly clean up their act.
This seller has NO REGARD for the buyer whatsoever.
I would leave a negative and be honest.
This seller appears to go to the school of hard knocks.

OP, only you can choose the path you will pursue.
There are many answers here but it all depends on you.
Some would neg, some would not leave feedback.
