What do you think about the new messaging system? I prefer the classic one

It certainly motivates one to use actual email instead.

Hmmm, I'll try that. I had no idea that you could reply to email notifications, most sites insist on you using their interface. That sure would beat this inane crippled smartphone experience. My life runs on email anyway, if this works than I don't care what eBay does as using my email on my real COMPUTER with THREE LARGE SCREENS (Are you listening eBay?) beats anything done online, but would be especially welcome to bypass the smartphone-esque nonsense. Oh, let's not forget about the STUPID "flat" Icons that have taken over the world because "cater to smartphones at all cost, the rest of the world be damned".

I was forced over to the new on last week, it is unusable. It is especially problematic when you have multiple questions from multiple buyers about the same item. There is no way to go back up into the message to see which question was asked by whom...only a reply 99.9% of the time. Also a problem with additional photo messages being sent to buyers, they are not going through at all. Makes it look like I'm ignoring requests. Complete garbage...

There is so much wrong with the 'new' messaging system and new bugs/issues keep popping up all the time!
For example...
(1) Sent messages appear in your INBOX.
(2) The SEARCH feature does NOT work! While looking at the list of messages in my INBOX, I searched by eBay ID and got the image of the pigeon sitting in an empty mailbox. I then searched using a word that appears in no less than 12 messages and again the pigeon in an empty mailbox!
(3) When finished sending a message, you can no longer click on a link to take you back to My eBay or the description of the item you were messaging about.
(4) In the CLASSIC version you could upload 10 photos when composing a message. Now that has been limited to 5 which was the limit when responding to a message on CLASSIC.
(5) You can no longer delete individual messages. Instead you have to delete the entire conversation.
(6) You cannot view an entire message on your desktop unless you open the message in your email (e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, etc.)!
EBAY... ARE YOU LISTENING?!!
Try this... do a Google search for "problems with new eBay messaging system 2024". There is page after page after page of member complaints!
PLEASE... EITHER SCRAP THIS SYSTEM UNTIL YOU HAVE WORKED OUT ALL OF THE BUGS/ISSUES AND REINSTATE THE CLASSIC VERSION POST HASTE!
THANK YOU TO ANY ANY ALL EBAY MODERATORS WHO WOULD LIKE TO CHIME IN. AND THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEMBERS WHO CONTINUE TO POST THEIR CONCERNS.

"EBAY... ARE YOU LISTENING?!!"
Obviously they are not. They certainly aren't listening to my almost daily reports of how their search engine is completely broken and useless, and I'm sure they'll just double down on this crippled smartphone-esque nonsense as well. If I wanted a smartphone experience, I'd just use a smartphone - as I'm on a desktop with far more power, resources, and screen real-estate (never mind a real keyboard), I most specifically do NOT want anything that even hints at a crippled smartphone usage model.

TOTALLY AGREE! I have been a member for almost 25-years and this by far is the worst blunder made by eBay.
It was originally designed for the desktop/laptop environment. There is no way you can conduct business on a small cell phone screen (even the bigger models)!
I also forgot to mention that like other members, I too lost a ton of old messages and folders. Even messages in the eBay deleted folder that have been there for years are gone!
CRAZY!!

Forgot to mention... I tried messaging a seller back using my Yahoo mail and he said he didn't receive it. It also doesn't appear in the eBay messaging system?
Curious if others have found a work around.

UPDATE... The message I sent from my Yahoo mail was received by the seller! And it now appears in the eBay messaging system tacked on to the conversation. However, it's a work around that I would prefer not to use.
CLASSIC is ideal for desktop/laptop users! And as already noted, senior citizens are having a real difficult time!
PLEASE EBAY... REINSTATE CLASSIC MESSAGING!

I tried a "direct reply" from my email client with no apparent success either.
The societal costs of the smartphone and the worldwide slavish catering thereto is MASSIVE - and the rest of us have to pay the price. This is but one example of thousands if not millions.

New system locks me out of typing a message or to send it to anyone, including ebay to ask for help. This happens with any attempt to message anyone. No obvious way to get back to Classic ? Am I the only one with this problem, mus be me but can't figure it out.

It is the most useless thing I have every dealt with.
I can not even reply to the messages I receive and can not send a message to my buyers either.
Called Ebay, and spent over 30 minutes with them and they tried to help and could not.
Ebay never test programs to see how they work before forcing them on us, and this has happened to me time and time again.
They are about to lose me as a seller and buyer after 25 years
But they don't care.

GREAT post! THANK YOU!!
Another CLASSIC feature that was removed... You can no longer FLAG messages! And the CLASSIC system would allow you to sort and look at only flagged messages. And, like everyone else has pointed out... the SEARCH feature does NOT work!
Another vote to rollback the messaging system to the CLASSIC version. PLEASE!!!!

Make it an option the way it was the last time you forced it on us.
The buttons do not work on my non-windows browser and I don't want to waste time debugging it for ebay.

Tell the college kid who forced this on us make it an option.

I doubt it was a college educated kid in the U.S.
One thing is for sure... whoever came up with this idea has never exchanged messages with sellers or buyers and possibly never bought or sold anything on eBay. Possibly someone in a 3rd world country?
EBAY... PLEASE REINSTATE THE CLASSIC VERSION. HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF MEMBERS HAVE EXPRESSED THE SAME DESIRE. PLEASE!!!!
