I need a little clarification...
Do I need to open a UPI dispute in order to recoup my fees?
After 48 hours, can I simply manually cancel the order and still recoup my fees? Is selecting "buyer requested cancellation" the only way to do this? Will it affect my seller rating?
Will the buyer be able to leave me negative feedback in either scenario?
Will I be able to leave the buyer negative feedback in either scenario? (I probably won't, but I'm annoyed and curious.)
Thanks!

You can no longer give negative feedback to buyers, since 2008.

Yes, no, no, yes, maybe, no.
If you file and close an unpaid item claim, the buyer cannot leave any feedback for you.

Thanks all - I was "powerseller" under a different ID many years ago & just started selling again a few months ago. Things have changed, & not all for the better!
I don't think I ever left a negative feedback for a buyer even when one deserved it - I just dealt with whatever **bleep** came up once in a while and moved on without additional drama.
But if buyers are now fully exempt from negative feedback, what's the point of them having feedback at all?

The point of feedback was never to give negatives. Originally it was to evaluate each other's performance; that does not automatically translate to the point of feedback was to give negatives as not all performance merits a negative. Ebay did away with it because negatives for buyers were abused. Then it changed to simply thanking your buyer, which does mean something to buyers, and it is a good way to advertise and build up good will, if the seller feels inclined to thank his buyers.

No. You can file a UID after 48 hours and close it 96 hours later. Simply cancelling the order, unless the buyer has specifically stated in a message that they are requesting that you cancel, would probably cost you your fees and possibly earn you a defect.
Only after the transaction is resolved will it be safe for you to relist the item.
