Re: ssn

If you want to sell on this site, you will need to give them your SSN or tax ID number.  It is a requirement by IRS for you to do that.

Please review the below link carefully. It contains very important information as to how Ebay needs to see the information you provide them on your account. It is likely easier to change your Ebay account to match your bank account if you find there to be a difference.

To pay you ... and ... it's required by law.

Two pretty good reasons, huh?

Hi @ellbay-54

It is required in the event you sell enough to qualify to receive a 1099K form for tax purposes.

Re: ssn

eBay is required to "know their customer".

To know you they need the SSN or an EIN.

The same reason virtually any online selling platform that sends you money needs it....

@ellbay-54

If your annual sales cross the monetary threshold set by congress, ebay is required to report that sum to the treasury, and send you a 1099K form.

To ensure my dear friend doesn't dodge their taxes, and because the law insists on it.  😎

Why are you afraid to give it?

Because the law requires it, and because you agreed to give it to them when you accepted the user agreement.

Re: ssn

They collect taxes for you, The IRS needs to know your volume of sales.

The ONLY taxes Ebay collects are STATE sales tax for those states that require it.  That has nothing to do with the need for someone's federal tax ID.

You are correct about the reporting of sales via the 1099K form to the IRS.
