so this is the new Ebay?

have to be honest, this could have been going for a while and not noticed.

today i was checking 1 of my listings.

first thought something was wrong with the description format.

1 very long line.

then right under a box; SEE FULL DESCRIPTION.

so is this the way it is now?

(viewing the listing on my laptop by the way).

let's give another reason for potential buyers not to be able to read descriptions.

another reason to say, i couldn't view it on my mobile.

or i missed the box, thought the infos were missing.

i don't get it.

ebay makes such a fuss about stuff we have no control of;

like an item being delivered late by the USPS even is shipped on time by the seller (or no scanned on time by the USPS... happens rarely but it happens).

but on the other hand hides the description (something i have control of) from buyers.

i am glad that 99.99% of buyers are more responsible than ebay.

you know Ebay, i am really glad i just canceled my store.

i mean i do ok overall with my online sales (not just ebay).i am moving away and glad that were i am going there are other options.

i do NOT understand why you'd want to make the description an extra step.

the description should be right in your face.

but in the minds of your managers and ceos a good description along with good pictures are NOT part of a good shopping experience.

but a package delivered late (even just 1 day) by the USPS is...

go figure...

And just think, yme, Amazon actually knows how to write a program and used items category doesn't work as well as new items for you.  Now project how well this will all work, very soon according to goodluck, with ebay's crackerjack staff.

Re: so this is the new Ebay?

And here I just thought that 22 people in a row didn't bother to write some details...... this is so annoying, it is starting to damage my calm.

Not really fun to surf this site just looking at pictures, could do that with a search engine.  People have enough problems with reading skills; they don't need any more hoop tricks.

MAKE IT GO AWAY EBAY.

I might be able to help you understand why this is back in place.  First no it is not new.  It has been tested for about a year now.  Changes have been made during the entire test time frame and now this new set of tests are rolling out in time for another round of changes so it can work as good as possible in time for the holiday selling season which is only about 90 days away.

As more and more online shopping is done from mobile devices you should be thanking eBay for the exhaustive research into how to keep buyers coming back and shopping on eBay.

Because more and more shopping is done from mobile devices the space that shows on the first screen we see from mobile devices all is very valuable space.  Additionally the characters that eBays shows from the description are character counted text that is an assembly of the keywords and or phrases about the product and these words are very important to show for external search engines to also use as well as the eBay user.  This will be much more used for used merchandise than for new merchadise that has attributes available to them.

Very soon when the cataloged eBay goes completely live all the descriptions from all the listings will be the same for exact same items that can be assembled using attributes like UPC, ISBN, MPN, etc, and the buyer for a search result on a specific items will see one description for all sellers and a comparison window comparing all the different attributes each seller has for the same item.  This will result in a much easier shopping experience and buyers will be able to purchase based on what is most important to them albeit if price is most important,  shipping, total cost, condition, how far away the item is to them, seller ratings.  Whatever set of things a buyer wants to use to make a decision will be present for the buyer to consider before buying.

Good Luck Selling and Happy Birthday America!

it might no be new but this is the first time i noticed it in my own listings.

i am also an avid buyer and never noticed it in other's listings.

i was away (more or less) for the last few weeks, so must have happened recently as far as what i see.

i don't see see how ebay catalog is going to help me.

i sell antiques, collectibles, junk and more junk...

my items don't come with an UPC #.

the thought of all items with such #s, bar codes or else; having the same description is just freaky.

i could only see that applying to new/brand new items but still........

in my mind nothing will replace a laptop or a computer.

i don't know what you sell but the last time ebay sent me an email about it, my mobile sales were barely 15%.

(well that is what ebay said).

i use my mobile all the time for research when shopping.

have no issue viewing descriptions and pics.

not sure why ebay had to change anything?

i never use my mobile for shopping.

uneasy about it.

i do my shopping in the comfort of my home.

i even have an Ipad now (very impressed).

can't stand cell phones.

so no i am not thanking ebay for hiding and making the description an extra step.

but that is the way it is.

have to adapt/accept the changes.

As I said on another thread........the "more information" link is in common usage on many sites.......it's not like they are hiding the info under 3 dots in an obscure part of the page.........

I don't like it, but doubt buyers are going to have alot of difficulty with it.........

and most buyers ISO "used" items are pretty good about reading descriptions.

but i don't like it.

it is like giving a reason for 1 to bypass the details.

we'll see what happens when it becomes the norm.

Just wait...I will not take long for the SNAD claims to start rolling in. eBay also wants too keep all the buyers very, very happy now, so even though they hid the descriptions, you'll pay the penalties. It's becoming a one way street here on eBay, and if you a seller, there's a great big wall at the end of yours.

Aren't the ebay webpage and the various apps different programs? They are on a different OS. They should tweak the apps as needed and leave the original page be.

The description is the LAST thing that buyers should have to dig for. If the title and that one pic doesn't say it all, very few people will dig further.

So disappointed in Ebay right now. The reason our full descriptions are not there is because there is not enough room on the page with all the "People who viewed this item also viewed" listings shown on the page I am trying to sell my item. We pay a fee to sell on Ebay and when a buyer goes into our listing they should see only our listing. You don't see advertising for Kmart when you walk into Walmart. How stupid! This started a few days ago and our sales have plummeted since then.

It's like renting a store at the mall and having mall management coming in all the time and telling all your customers that there's something even better for them at another store in the mall.

Re: so this is the new Ebay?

I am a buyer who finds this new feature very hard to use. I am a long-term eBayer, so am very experienced. I find this new button to access the seller's description to be annoying, inconvenient, and frustrating. How's that for a good shopping experience? Ebay has always had strengths that Amazon lacked: great sellers who you could contact easily, great photos of the actual item, and great descriptions so you could get detailed information about the actual item being sold. I buy on Amazon too, but prefer to buy from eBay sellers, as I can contact them with any adjustment or question throughout the buying process. I really appreciate eBay sellers and wish eBay would let them flourish.

i find this feature annoying...

i just listed a new item.

today i was even more confused.

at least in my other listings there is 1 long line of my description.

and then the box...

in this new listing; nothing...

just the blue box saying; full description.

at first it is confusing.

the blue box doesn't even stand out.

1 could easily think, there is NO description.

i wonder?

up to a few weeks ago i was shopping a lot.

buying stuff for my soon to come trip.

i have the impression some items didn't have a description.

i was buying brand new stuff.

thought it was the reason.

i might have missed the blue box saying; full description.

of course i would have searched harder if i were buying "used" items.

but buying new items i just didn't think twice about it.

let's see what happens.

but i tell you 1 thing...

i don't like it...Smiley Frustrated

Yes, it's the eBay way........

First put a LOT of emphasis on sellers writing good, no make that GREAT descriptions - then hide them.

What next eBay?

You've put so much emphasis on great photos - are you going to start only showing ONE photo (of your choosing) with a little box to see the rest of the photos?

You already did with IS a while back - remember that little debacle?

Oh and there was not showing the condition box "test"

When/where does it end?

This is the second month only half my product photos are showing, and revising doesn't fix it.

Do I wonder why competitors are selling the same items for more money while mine sit?

I'm so frustrated that I don't have the energy to waste calling ebay because from experience

I already know nothing will be accomplished.
