I have a a listing to sell books on eBay, and I received a contact from an interested in possibly purchasing other similar items I might have, which are not listed. I want to stay within the ebay rules, but how do I sell the stuff? Do I list it regardless, or is there some way to sell it thru eBay without listing it, but so eBay still gets their share of the proceeds?

@tomferd1 First and foremost, I applaud your honesty. You will need to list it but you can message the perspective Buyer and work out what you have and what they want then create a listing for them. What I will do is create an auction listing and have it go live on an agreed to day and time ... the Buyer then places the minimum bid that was agreed to and I then END the listing, accepting their bid and selling the item. next I send and invoice, they pay and I ship ...

When I make a private listing for a customer , I use Fixed Price/Immediate Payment Required.
And I use the customer's eBay ID as the title, which makes it close to impossible for anyone to find accidentally.
Then I tell the customer the title and the item number (it's just above the Description on the right in tiny blue numbers) and give him a deadline, usually 48 hours.
He pays, I ship, eBay gets its fees.
I put a price list for other stuff I don't have listed in the package.
If he doesn't pay, his name comes off the listing and he is Blocked as a time-waster. The listing continues with a more visible title for 30 days.

Your method of handling this situation seems like a good one.
However, when you state you put a price list in the package of items you do not have listed, I'm not sure whether or not that's a violation of eBay rules. It could be considered doing a transaction outside of eBay.

A year or so ago an ebay rep was here promoting an exciting new way to sell with the new make an offer via email option . He said simply send the offer and add in other items you wish to sell, or the buyer wanted, and include in the offer price. He stressed there was no need to make a separate listing. Many of us worried about how this would play out without having an actual listing with full description and photos in the event of a return claim, but he was confident it would work great.
I never heard much about it after the roll-out and wondered if any sellers had tried this method.

I would just set up the listing for the buyer using best offer, then set the initial price really high and tell the buyer to make an offer for the agreed upon price. This way no one else will be able to buy your item, unless they have really deep pockets.

It definitely would be considered an off-eBay transaction if you posted a picture on eBay for things that you’re looking to sell off-eBay. The best way to deal with this is to put future sale information in flyers in your packages.
