I tried to look up whether we can get a stipend from the stimulus package. What I read seemed to be saying we need to file for unemployment. Is there something else we should be doing, do you know? Do we have to reach the point of no sales to be eligible?

Chesapeake Bay area? $75K is per person as I read it so $150K for a couple.

Well that wasn't what you originally said. But just for some clarification here on the Stimulus Bill.
It depends on your income. Single adults with Social Security numbers who have an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less will get the full amount. Married couples with no children earning $150,000 or less will receive a total of $2,400. And taxpayers filing as head of household will get the full payment if they earned $112,500 or less.
Above those income figures, the payment decreases until it stops altogether for single people earning $99,000 or married people who have no children and earn $198,000. According to the Senate Finance Committee, a family with two children will no longer be eligible for any payments if its income surpassed $218,000.
You can’t get a payment if someone claims you as a dependent, even if you’re an adult. In any given family and in most instances, everyone must have a valid Social Security number in order to be eligible. There is an exception for members of the military.

Keep in mind the bill has not even been passed by the house yet.
I believe the current version will pay $1200 per adult for those who had adjusted gross income of less than $75k on their last tax return (either 2018, or 2019 if they have already filed).
It tapers gradually to zero from $75k to $99k; i.e. over $99k you get nothing.
From what I saw today.... it was 1200 for singles, 2400 for married, and 500 per kid.
On a side note, my 16 yr old had/has a job at a local pizza joint. It was a eat in place and they shut down and told every one to go home... Earlier this week the bosses sent out a message stating they were filing for unemployment for everyone that worked there and something about how they would have to keep it up each Sunday... I have a few issues with this, she's 16 she doesn't need the money, she had the job for blow money... she can't blow it (as I'm not letting her out to roam then bring the nasties home to mom) so I see no reason for her to get it. Do we have to go figure out unemployment to stop it? or can we just ignore it? Does she have to take it?
It would be different if she was working FOR something... ie college savings, a car, insurance, bills ect.
If she had a paying job she paid into unemployment and is thus eligible for benefits. You can't just say that she's not entitled to it because you aren't letting her spend her "blow money" due to the lockdowns. If she gets unemployment, maybe it can be saved for later on.

In Canada there's a minimum number of weeks that need to be worked (20 I think) before you can get unemployment benefits.
Don't they have a similar system there to stop people from having a job for a month or two and filing with unemployment?

Someone making $75K for last few years should have enough saved up for a 6 month emergency fund if they live within their means.
Not if you live in a city where your mortgage payment is over 2K a month. (Friends of mine bought a house for 400K and are paying 1900 a month for their mortgage with 5% down). They make 100K between the two of them, if either of them loses their job, the ship will sink.

Well that is really going to depend on where they live, how many kids they have, etc. While it is a nice salary for many places, it isn't for others. So the details are important and has a bearing on how much if any someone is able to save.
Well, for once, I have to agree with you, hehe! You can get a 5 BR 3 Baths Home (with 350 days of sunshine) here in NM with mountain view (or even with an in-ground pool, if you are lucky) at or below 280,000 whereas a friend of ours just said, a garage in the neighborhood he is looking to buy would easily cost 200,000 - 250,000 in Cali - without the house or the lot on which it is built. So, yes, California, but also some other places in the country, is definitely far more expensive than the average areas. I assume renting is the same way, in such posh neighborhoods, must be very expensive. And commuting takes a lot of gasoline.

I should move to NM... I paid that much for the main floor of a duplex. I don't even own the building, just rights to occupy with a monthly service charge for building maintenance.

Could they have bought a $300K house instead? Or wasn't it nice enough, big enough or too far out?

I don't know enough about unemployment to know that...
I told her if SHE wants it SHE has to figure it out.
I have moral issues with taking money from the Gov, if I felt I didn't earn it or need it, since they are MY issues I decided to let her decide and let her work it out on her own.

You should really consider this, if you can do so without sacrificing your job. The wisest decision I have ever made, probably, not counting whom I married, which was the Number 1 best decision. Really, if you wish to find out more, just PM me.
I should probably not say it too loud, as part of the attraction is here, that it is one of the best-kept secrets of a "sunshine state" so there are no crowds. Patrick Swayze had a ranch here, too - wonder why? The night skies. Let the crowd move to FL where they find snapodiles in their pool. or even in front of their entrance door! Hot, humid and there are hurricanes, too. Don't get me started about palmetto bugs. But there are people who love living on the ocean shores, never mind that those buildings are sinking and their first floor often floods. And the sinkholes...they can swallow an entire house. No, thanks! Love to visit but always happy to be back to NM!
Or AZ which is rapidly running out of water and fresh air, not to mention the habubs (sand-storms that create 60 feet tall moving sand walls like those in Australia, packing the pools and carports full of sand). Although in N NM you can't have an orange tree in the backyard, which is nice to have in AZ. Hmm, Choices, choices!

We have those type of restrictions too, in normal times, but with the effect COVID19 is having with all the shut downs there are special UE provisions in the stimulus package.

That isn't how it works. She is a young lady that was just working her first job. She had only been working for two months.
In their state they have the following requirement.
be unemployed or working part-time (less than 32 hours per week) through no fault of your own, have earned at least $780.01 in 2 quarters within the base period, and be physically able, available, and seeking work.
That "base period" would NOT be the last two months. But likely the previous 2 quarters. IDK for sure, I'd have to look it up. But either way, she would not qualify.

It is important to remember we are talking about a 16 year old that is the dependent of her parents. She worked her first job and was there for 2 months. According to her states rules she does not qualify for unemployment insurance. And she shouldn't qualify IMHO. The stimulus package is not intended to make bank for our teenagers that live at home and are supported by their parents.
