What happened is strange
This week I received an item that I sold a long time ago
and it said
return to sender no mail receptable unable to forward return to the sender
but there is no claim nor did eBay open a case, nothing
the buyer did not send me a message
so what should I do?
not say anything? or do something?

The buyer is required to provide a secure place to receive mail/packages.

While this is an accurate statement @cristian3_6 , it is not the solution to your problem.

Best to just stay silent and see what the  buyer does.  Have  had buyers make  some noise about a purchase but they just rattled the cage and then went silent forever.  See God is Great, Beer is Good and People are Crazy.

Should  the buyer  open a case - your  Ace in the hole is  like I previous stated - the buyer is responsible to have a safe, secure place to  received their mail or purchase.

You contradict yourself in both paragraphs of your wiring. 

 

Do not tell  what I think, neither assume something I did not say.

 

Seller is not required to conduct "investigation" on what happened. Seller can make reasonable effort to contact the Buyer, and if it doesn't work, nothing more to do. If you're so worried that the Seller keeps the money and the product, what is your solution?

I didn't contradict myself, my "wiring" is fine.  You may not agree with me, which is fine, but lets not get insulting as it simply isn't necessary.  If you'd like to be more descriptive in what you feel I communicated badly, I'm happy to try and clarify.

 

I never told you what you think.  That is ridiculous nor would it be something I would do.

 

I also never said what your last paragraph says.  So clearly we have miscommunicated.

 

I gave my opinion of the solution to this kind of issue, clearly you take exception with it, which is fine.

 

It would be my hope that if you ever get a Chargeback and the buyer is awarded the refund and allowed to keep the product, which all too often happens, you will take it in stride since you feel sellers should be able to keep the product returned to them and nor refund the buyer less shipping costs and fees.

Looks a whole like some folks having a case of  flexing their internet muscles - similar to have a a case of " beer muscles" at the local saloon from here in l'il ole' Dog Patch, GA.

Just had this happen except buyer open a INR when PO tracking post "return to sender", on the INR they ask for me to change address and send it back to them. Normally when I get a item back(which I got today), I refund minus shipping but with an INR open, not sure what to do. If I click refund on the INR will it refund the total or will I be able to deduct shipping. I message the buyer 2 days ago, let them know they need to close the case and when I get the item back, I'll refund the difference and relist it for them to re-buy. That per ebay's rules I can not change the address and reprint a new label.  No answer. I'm afraid to call ebay, not a good history with wanna be reps.

@tsme35  Don't call eBay, there should be no need and it can lead to unintended consequences.  Did you put the tracking number into the INR case, or confirm it if it's already showing?  If it shows delivery was attempted and it was returned to sender, you should win the INR, and then after that closes, you can do a refund of the amount you choose (you're correct that if you refund through the INR you can't withhold the shipping cost).  Then relist and let them repurchase as you had planned.  It should work out alright, with the caveat that if the buyer doesn't understand the process you need to follow, they may end up not repurchasing.  That said, I generally find that if things will sell once, they'll sell again if you get them back and relist them like that!

Yes, I added the tracking number to both case's,  he bought 2 items and was automatically combined. I got them back today and send a message on the INR case to close it so I can refund him. It's been crickets since I sent the 1st message 2 days ago.

Thanks for the info, I thought the INR refund was for the whole total, but wasn't sure. I don't get "return to sender" often but usually I just refund minus shipping and email the buyer.
