reprice, or list new items?

I have enough FB listings that when they end and I have to relist, repricing each item is super time-consuming. Right now I am experimenting with just relisting them and using the time saved by not repricing  to get more listed (on Amazon mostly).  If you have listings expiring after 30 days do you reprice them or relist without repricing? Or reprice just some of the time?

Re: reprice, or list new items?

Depends on how bad you want to get rid of some things. I've had stuff here for 3 years at the same price but if I lowered it any more, it's not worth the hassle of packing and shipping. Might as was trash it.

I still use Turbo Lister so repricing my listings takes just a few seconds.

Re: reprice, or list new items?

My suggestion, never ever relist any item!

Relisting an item that didn't sell is always a bad idea because you continue with the same bad search ranking as before.

I suggest you go to your ended item and do a 'list a similar' item. Even though it's all the same, the eBay search algorithm treats it as a new item with a high search ranking.

I wrote a search tool for my own listings and made it free available for everybody. Have fun using it.

What does that mean? When I search, I may for  example enter a few key words or a part number, and get 500 results for example. Then I sort from lowest price plus shipping. How would those results or rankings change if you relist at the same price?

I think it is incredibly naive to assume that bad placement in Best Match search is the only explanation for an unsold item.

Re: reprice, or list new items?

You don't have to reprice your items every 30 days.  There is no reason to do that on a regular basis unless you have such a high profit margin figured into your product prices that you can afford to do this.  Most of us can't.  Not everything is going to sell in 30 days.  Sometimes it take a lot longer and sometimes it doesn't.

For myself I run mostly GTC listings.  Every now and again I'll have a sale on my items with a specificed percentage off.  And every few months on my craft stuff I will review pricing.  On my fragrances, I update those regularly as price goes up or down.

Re: reprice, or list new items?

Whether you use Sell Similar or Relist as Fixed Price, the bulk editor allows you to click on each line and change the price on any given item or to click on Edit Fields> Price Quantity Best Offer to revamp in bulk.

But unless something has been flagged with the 16 months unsold note, there is no particular reason to change your price.

It's not likely that the same people are looking at your listings more than once anyway unless you are selling a niche collectible.

Can you point out where I said that this is the only explanation?  With a little bit of common sense ask, what comes first, a sale, or being found in a search?

Coming early in searches will make at least potentially better sales, coming not up in searches means no sales for sure.

The default search result has a certain ranking, that you can sort as you please, price, location etc. That will 'destroy' the initial search rank. You are right here.

But this depends really on what you search for. In my experience sorting by price often doesn't really work because you get lots of SPAM listings. I was just looking for a certain electric toothbrush, sorted by price I 100s of listings just for the head first.

Sure, I can set more filters. But as a seller, coming out near the top of a search is no harm at all anyway. I am also not sure how many time users want to spend on filtering results. I mean, I do that a lot and it can be very frustrating at times.

When I first price an item I compare and price on the high side. I have my reasons that I could explain later. I then lower the price until it sells(within reason). Sometimes I only lower the price on 30 day rollover. If I notice watchers or a high view count I may lower it a few times over 30 days. For me, many factors play into how much and how fast I will lower it. Sometimes I raise it.

I agree with another poster here in this thread. Don`t relist but "sell similar" instead. Always do some type of edit when selling similar. Change the price, title, description, add a picture, add an item specific if you can think of one you may have missed....just anything that might help.

If my item gets below a certain price I pull it to either lot up or auction at a later date.

Re: reprice, or list new items?

mam - can I ask how you ship your fragrances? I have a huge collection but USPO keeps telling me I can't ship them thru them and if they catch me there is an automatic $2,500 fine - no questions asked.

Thank you for sharing your search tool.  Made me smile when I used it it and saw over 30 of my items in the 100 that displayed when I used it.

I have a question about your ranking tool. Are the results in your tool identical to ebays "best match" search?

Re: reprice, or list new items?

So people use sell similar to get a boost in ranking same as items that are actually new to the site?

No one sees anything wrong with that?

Except buyers seeing the same old same old and leaving because they feel they already have seen it before.

Ebay destroying this site?  Sellers seem to be having a hand in it too, imo.
