"Pitfalls to avoid?"

Spending any significant amount of time trying to find someone else to sell this stuff for you.

Good luck with that.  Most experienced sellers here have enough to handle on their own things.

You may not have considered the minimum amount a seller will need to do this, even if you do the packing etc.  As well, since the seller would be presumably selling on his own account, his will be the Federal income tax burden.  Plus you would be doing the packing which leaves open the issue of broken items.  If the seller is doing the listing, but you're doing the shipping, what's your plan for payment?

Not saying you'll get no takers, just offering up the negative side of this plan.

@zhappy

I think you'll find it at best difficult to get a seller interested in doing what you describe - at least on this site.

Anyone agreeing to do this will have the burden of dealing with returns, chargebacks, ebay fees, possible negative feedbacks, on and on.  What you consider 'very fair commissions', a seller may well balk at.  Most would want the lion's share of the sale just because it's their reputation that's on the line.  I don't think a seller listing for you, and you doing the packing and shipping will fly either.  Most sellers would certainly want the items in their possession to make sure they are described and photographed in the best way possible, as well as dotting all the I's and crossing the T's as far as shipping goes.

Your idea of selling the collections as a whole to someone is probably your best bet.

Your best bet is to list them yourself or to look for someone local to sell them to. Or if you think they're worth a lot of money, you can contact one of the auction houses to sell them off for you.

No one here is going to sell items for someone else that they

1. don't have access to

2. then deal with any the issues that arise from those sales (customer service, returns, etc)

3.then pay the taxes the federal govt will charge them on those sales

I would recommend selling the collection yourself or having an auction house do it for you. No seller on ebay will do this unless they are at least getting 50% of the total sale and most will not do this unless they physically have the items onhand. Good luck

Am also very open to selling each of the the collections in their entirety... (50+/- items in each), allowing someone to create their own business.

You could list the collections on eBay.

But using the boards to announce the availability of something not listed on eBay might be against policy.

EBAY does not allow Sellers to exchange "contact information" so even if someone was interested, they could not contact.

Also, a big deterrent to selling other's people items is the "income tax liability".   EBAY reports income to IRS based on seller's social security# of the person who has the EBAY account (personally, I do not want someone else's tax liability).

You would do better to contact someone in your local area who does estate sales.  Good luck to you!

I am very pleased, and very impressed at the quality, and the quickness of responses to my obviously, here-to-for 'ignorant' questions

Appreciate the help of everyone that responded… Now I will figure out how to remove my query

I would very much love to delete my question/post… But I'll be darned. I can't find any place to do that… Even searched eBay for answers

@zhappy

In order to sell them for you, I would need photos, weight and dimension, item description and asking price. If you can provide me with that info, you sure can list them yourself. and keep all the money.

1. There are no "ignorant" questions here.  You wanted to know, you posted, you received lots of relevant responses.  You thanked the responders.

2. You don't need to remove your query.  It contained interesting information and you received good information.  Who knows -- this thread may be helpful to others.

No need to worry about removing your question.  Someone else will come along, see your query and the answers and will say to themselves, "Oh, so that's why it's not a good idea!"

ETA:  Well, so much for my response.
