"This seller is currently away" message displayed. Only we're NOT 'away'...

Over the last few days we've noticed the following message appears on our listings for which the quantity drops to zero. "This seller is currently away, and is not processing orders at this time. You can add this item to your watch list to purchase later."

That is inaccurate and misleading. We're not away. We're just showing zero quantity for the item in question. FYI - We use the eBay-provided Out Of Stock option, which doesn't end a listing just because quantity drops to zero...

There are many problems with this message. It could send potential buyers to competitors when we may have another listing they'd be interested in. (ie - They may decide not to look at other items in our store and just move along.) Or maybe they would normally contact us to see if we have more in stock or on the way, but don't in this case, because eBay says we're "away". Or maybe it's a buyer going back to a purchased listing because of a problem they're having. They see we're "away", so they don't bother to reach out for assistance. They just open a return case (possibly with the wrong reason), because they didn't think we'd be able to provide support... Any way you look at it, this is NOT a good message to be presenting. It serves no purpose. The listing already shows quantity 0, so they can't buy the item. Why scare them away from contacting us or looking at our other items?

Why is this message appearing and how do we either customize it or turn it off? FYI - I checked Vacation Settings and they are NOT turned on.

This is something eBay has evidently recently put in place of their own accord. For us anyway. Anyone else having this same experience?

I have it going on as well.  They didn't admit to anything of being aware.  Good to know they are "working on it".  They are too busy trying to force me to change all my listings again.  I have to verify who I am and then their links don't work to tell me what needs fixing.  They sure know how to ruin our ability to sell.

I've been seeing that message on other seller sites   too  lately .I've contacted a few  to check  before buying . .   Before this  started to happen  whenever I placed an item in my cart  a big red letter message would pop up and say  that  the seller was on vacation and wasn't processing orders at this time . That was happening on every item no matter the seller .  Tulips

This problem was brought up during the weekly chat and this was the reply ( #36 of 63 )

@ millcreekrescue909 this is a known issue that is effecting some sellers. It's odd for sure and I'm sorry you're currently effected by it. I'm not aware of a workaround, but you can try placing your store on vacation and then turning the vacation setting off a few minutes later to see if that resets it and fixes the messaging. I'll add your example to the ticket our tech team is reviewing.

Re: "This seller is currently away" message displayed. Only we're NOT 'away'...

This happened to me on Saturday.  I received a message from a buyer saying that they wanted to buy my item, but that it was coming up that I was on Vacation (I AM NOT) and that they couldn't purchase the item.  Coincidentally, my sales for Saturday were almost 0, very unusual for a Saturday.  I requested a call from eBay, and they confirmed that my store was not on Vacation, and that this is the first that they had heard of it.

To confirm, my listings are all unique, and none had 0 quantity noted (99% with a quantity of 1), so I'm not sure it's the same issue.  Regardless, it has the same result as a complete stalling of sales activity.

This is obviously a known issue, and I'm becoming quite irritated that the eBay CS reps just "play dumb".  Just fess up that there's and issue and that eBay is working on it.  This is not the first glitch I've reported that gets the "we have received no other reports" response.

Re: "This seller is currently away" message displayed. Only we're NOT 'away'...

I bought an item from a seller few days ago and I got the same message on the seller page. I decided to pay anyway because I don’t need the item right away and I can wait for them to ship it.

To my surprise the seller shipped the item in the same day.

Looks like EBay has a technical problem and display wrong vacation mode on the sellers accounts. Imagine all the sales that are lost since a lot of people are not willing to wait for a seller to come back from vacation.

also the vacation setting didn’t display a date when the seller will be back.

Thanks all for posting about this - the good news is the team was already aware, thanks to the reports via Customer Support but I was able to find out they are working on fixing it now. No ETA for the fix but it's definitely prioritized.

Thank you!

I think, since it's ebay's error, that ebay actually send them the money to go on a vacation.  😉
