scammers pick on new sellers, buyers who ask for gift cards, "text me" scammers and always check PayPal as scammers will send a fake payment. Otherwise have fun.

Here is some light reading for you. Come on back after you have done your homework, LOL. But seriously come on back and ask the question you will most certainly have after reading this.
And THANK YOU, it is refreshing to have a new seller come her for some assistance and a desire to LEARN how to sell here. So many just jump in, start having issues that certainly could have been avoided if they had done their homework.

I know this isn't your purview......but the poster is from Sri Lanka, as alot have been in the last few wks. One question US posters have is that, at one time, and possibly still, paypal is not available for Sri Lanka....for selling.
I tried to research it......and paypal seems to support Sri Lanka.......but I can't get into their actual rules. According to what other places I've read......it's only for buying.......they can only buy, but they can't receive payments.....
any chance you know? lol..........for sure?

Being in Sri Lanka make sure you don't drop ship.

There are a lot of good things to do when starting to sell on eBay. You have to first get ove the hump of being a new seller. This isn't everything by no means. Other sellers will add to your post.
Here are a few:
- Provide good customer service. Treat buyers how you want to be treated!
- Do research to see what others maybe are selling the same items for.
- Post clear nice pictures, you get up to 12 free. Pictures can show the item's condition better. Don't use anyone else’s pictures.
- Write a good title and description. Be sure to note any flaws. The more detailed your description the less chance of a buyer filing a not as described case. I even show pictures of the flaws.
- Fill in the detail section as much as possible.
- Make sure that your shipping price listed is accurate. You cannot ask the buyer for more money after the sale, if you get it wrong.
- Never sell outside of eBay, for your protection.
- Don't ever agree to send to another address other than the buyers registered address.
- Answer your messages from buyers as soon as possible.
- Look out for scams. Suggest reading eBay's section on scams.
https://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/stay_safe.html#recognize_scams
- Always provide and upload tracking.
- Charge reasonable shipping rates.
- Double check your spelling and grammar.
- Be sure to read eBays selling policies.
- Read eBay's start selling overview; it has some very helpful articles.
- Be familiar with eBay’s prohibited to sell items.
As a new seller you will have selling limits. eBay does this to make sure that you show that you are a good seller and show a good track record.
You will also have to know what trademark items you can't sell. If you list an item that is on the prohibited list, VERO (Verified Rights Owner Program) will get your auction listing closed.
Again, this isn't everything. This is only the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of great folks here that will add to what I started. It is good to hear what everyone has to add.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

@dhbookds I don't know for sure on this one, unfortunately 😞

A number of these new sellers from Sri Lanka have had sales, and I haven't seen any threads mentioning they haven't been or can't be paid, so they must be able to receive payments somehow.

Yes, you're right.....but the thing is people still post that paypal isn't acceptable there.....which may be bad info....I know it used to be true....something about their central bank not recognizing paypal at one time. There may be a "workaround" that I can't see.....
Thing is they ask such basic questions, hard to know where to start....but then some questions are pretty sophisticated selling techniques such as using Pinterest.....but they have no listings/no sales. Japan posts some good basic info........but if you go back on most of the posts......they still have no listings.... and there have been so many of them. I just wonder if there isn't a info commercial of some kind there trying to lure them into quick money with drop shipping stuff..... All are very nice/polite....and I just wish we knew more to try to help.......
Thanks brian@ebay

Maybe we should move to Sri Lanka and open an Ebay School.
I also wonder about the payment thing. Does PayPal have a list of countries that can accept payments? I'll do some digging around in there and see what I can find.
