negative feedback

I got my first negative feedback from a buyer who wrote “the worst” and nothing more.

I provided tracking first class mail and even made inquiries at the post office and at the post office it should have gone to but the package cannot be found (over 2 weeks in the system).  I asked the buyer to open a case so i could refund his money ($4.30) and he refused saying he wanted his sports card which i don’t have a replacement for.  I eventually canceled his transaction and gave him a refund which prompted his feedback.  Can his feedback be removed?

Pay no attention to the buyer who gave you the neg nor the posters who believe a neg is warranted when an item gets lost in the mail through no fault of your own. Just two peas in a pod.

No, there are no grounds for it to be removed.  Ebay CS would say that it is the buyer's opinion.

Could you find the sports card from another seller and have it sent to your buyer?  Then you could ask him if he would consider revising his feedback, but he would be under no obligation to do so, so you might go to all that trouble for nothing.

Sorry you got your first neg; they do hurt.  Try not to let it get you down!

WOW selling since 2005, over two thousand seller feedbacks!  You have a great record if this is your first neg.  Sorry, I know that doesn't make you feel any better.

No it was a card that was numbered.  I just never figured he would get upset over something I cannot conrol

Because sellers choose the shipping method and are expected to have the item delivered to the buyer.

@castlemagicmemories

I've done that, found another seller who could ship to my customer (and even made money on the deal,surprisingly).

But when the buyer is obnoxious about it, demanding a thing that cannot be duplicated, instead of money back, and then leaving nasty feedback, he has lost the right to a refund, in my opinion.

I am old and grouchy.

There is still a chance that the bad tempered buyer will get the currently lost package. The postal system is very good at its job, although sometimes it is slower than it promises.

@bryan7673

I hope you asked USPS for a refund of your shipping cost.

Totally understand.

I don't think you are old and grouchy.  Just human.  You don't want to reward bad behavior.  Understandable.

I wouldn't neg a seller if an item got lost in the mail; it is not their fault.  They didn't lose it.  But apparently not everyone thinks like this.

I can understand him being upset and disappointed, but I don't condone negging you for something that was not your fault.  Sadly some can't understand that a  seller may only have one of an item, and they want what they want, no matter what.

This is a general comment, not specific to the case of the OP in this thread.

A lost package/letter can indeed be the seller's fault.  If it was not packaged well enough to survive the trip it may get destroyed, thus undeliverable.  If the label is not attached well, if the address is handwritten and not legible, among other possibilities for lost packages that are the seller's fault.

And you are right!  I stand corrected.   But it may be that one will never know why the package didn't arrive.  If one doesn't know, it seems wrong to neg over it.

But now that you mention this, I recall not receiving an item, and it turned out that the seller had not placed a good label on it, it came back to her as it had gotten wet and they could not read my address well.  She told me this and said she didn't realize she should put tape on the label so that wouldn't happen.   Ok.

She resent it, with plastic as needed over label, and it arrived.

Absolutely her fault, but I just let it go.  Hopefully she learned something there.

I use bubble mailers and adhesive labels and if the label looks like its not right i used packing tape on it

Your response was very professional, and I doubt any buyer would hesitate to purchase from you.
