Re: mail

I sure hope you were not using media mail rates during the last few months. That's a no brainer.

Re: mail

I assume that all those buyers opened Disputes for Item Not Received?

And tracking showed that the books were in fact Not Received?

How was the buyer, or eBay, wrong in the Dispute?

Keep an eye on the tracking for those refunded books. When they show delivered, send each buyer a polite invoice (you can do this through Paypal) with a polite cheerful note saying you see they now have their order and can use the invoice to repay the refund. Add an apology that they did not get their book earlier due to COVID delays in the mailstream.

It may only work about half the time, but if you were gracious about the refund, you may find yourself with a little more money than you thought.

Also, remember that those refunds are tax deductible. So there's that.

Re: mail

how about making usps refund and apologize . i like that idea a  whole lot more.  think your 50% estimate is way short unless youve  a lot of repeat customers.  ill give a freebie  because im forced to, but that will be the  only thing their gonna have a chance  to get   from me  again unless they are a regular and know that its not my fault. amazing  how a regular customer has the wisdom  & fortitude to wait and let the situation play out. might be they  know they have it good with a seller and  dont wanna mess iit up.

Re: mail

I feel your pain. The delays have been widely reported on news and on ebay, buyers need to be a bit patient. I have a buyer currently who has filed an item not received, I responded immediately and went to the USPS website and filed a missing mail. The info popped right up on the tracking here on ebay so buyer knew I was doing all I could. On the 8th, the buyer would be able to ask ebay to step in so on the 7th I contacted ebay.

Ebay cs called me back in 4 minutes. I had a wonderful rep in Ireland who put the case on hold for 10 days so the package could be found. Hasn't been located or scanned yet but it bought me and the item a bit of time to make it thru the backed up postal system.

Did you reach out when the buyers opened the case for INR ? If you don't respond, ebay will refund the buyer, as they did in your case.

I hope, now that the holidays are past, USPS gets packages out in a timely manner. Mine is still lost but keep hoping. Will likely be refunding but not an expensive item, $24.95 but still hurts. Again, you have my sympathy.

Re: mail

well I shipped a set of books out January 4 USPS Priority Flat Rate Box, Not Media, and  the tracking number states the package has departed Post Office, no other movement, (and the parcel is on its way to PA AAARRRGGHHH), according to my Postal Worker where I drop off the packages, his remark was it does not matter which service I use, the mail has less than a  50/50 chance of getting to where it is going at a reasonable date.

Re: mail

Before I start, last year I lost hundreds of dollars because of this very issue.

That being said...

A buyer asked me about this the other day, you may not like my answer...

Here is what I said:

The covid delays have been happening since it first started, it is nothing new anymore.  Further, the policies are clearly spelled out to both buyer and seller, so as far as I'm concerned at this stage of the game the seller can make a choice whether to even sell or not.  But should I as a seller chose to sell then I also accept whatever the outcome, being that I'm fully aware of both policy and circumstances.

Should a buyer feel bad or guilty for opening an INR case?
No, not if the package hasn't arrived and ebay lets them.

They can, on their own volition give us a few extra days but it's entirely the buyer's choice.

I would not for one instant feel guilty of doing that as a buyer.

Feel like you're losing money?

Maybe you should start buying here, too.

What arrives on time, you paid for.

What doesn't, you can see if you get a refund.

You may further have to raise your prices a little to compensate for the losses.

Simple, just a game we play.

Re: mail

For what it's worth, i had 3 similar transactions over the holidays. I voluntarily refunded all 3 buyers. I kept track of the tracking.  When the packages showed up i sent each one a paypal money request along with a nice note,   asking for payment.  All  3 paid.

Good luck and stay safe!

"Baltimore, I hear, is nearly as bad."
My buyer who has been waiting patiently since November 14, 2020, is in the state of Maryland.  It has been more than nine weeks now.   I gave a refund from kindheartedness (less than $20) and I still check tracking on usps.com.   I still think there is a chance someone stole it.
