If I choose to charge customers the discounted rate eBay has for USPS shipping is my handling charge reflected in the price shown to the buyer.
So what I'm asking is if the discounted shipping rate is $2.89 and my handling charge is $.30 is $3.19 displayed for $2.89?
Because when I look at one of my listings it seems like the handling charges not included?

If you are using calculated shipping and you have an handling fee plugged into the calculation. NO the buyer does NOT see that.
Check how you have the calculator set up.

GENUINE Stihl br600,br550 carburetor 1282 120 0606 OEM NEW
That listing is showing $3.00 to ship to me in 92802, which is zone 8 from you in FL. For a first class package 1-4 oz, it will cost you $3.09 to ship to me, so you lose .09 .

this system is so screwed up then. that should be a simple calculation. I will have to go and find all the listings i've changed to calculated and alter the handling charge to compensate for the bad shipping calculation. I read another post where someone was complaining about this very thing.
All i'm trying to do is make sure i can properly match competitors prices while considering shipping costs.
I can see why i read so many complaints now.

Ebays shipping calculator for USPS is accurate. I'm guessing you have the same error as the other recent post where you have large envelope selected when it should be package. If you put a handling time in your handling time selection it will get added to the calculated price

It sounds like angel is right, so you might want to read this thread before you do anything.

I just looked at a different listing. I had it set to 2ounces and on package/thick envelope. thats what i have all my first class listings set to. it shows 2.89 shipping to my zip code. It has a 20 cent handling charge. I went to my other account to purchase the item and when I purchased it was still $2.89 for shipping. so the handling charge is either displayed with the shipping cost and the shipping cost was 2.69 OR the handling charge is not being added.
So I revise the listing to reflect first class large envelope at 2 ounces. I then switched accounts and the postage displayed was $1.35. I purchased the item and the total shipping was $1.35.
I thought large envelope was more expensive, in fact I am pretty sure I just read that in someone's post. maybe I have that part backwards.
if im right ; large envelope is less expensive but where is my 20 cent handling charge being figured in?

I remember now. large envelope doesn't have tracking so it isnt an option to print through ebay. thats why its cheaper.
but the bottom line is I do NOT have any listings set to large envelope. and my handling charge does not seem to be reflected at the time of purchase.

For 2 ounces it starts at 2.66 and goes up depending on zone. There is a 2.68 and and 2.70 but not at 2.69 that I see
if you look at your own listing it will be the lowest cost since it will show shipping to your own zone. It also sounds like you are passing on the discounted online rates to buyers

Why would you set your listings to pass on the discount to your buyers and then try to make it up with a handling fee? Don't set it that way---especially since ebay takes their cut, unless you want to pay part of the shipping costs for all your buyers.

ok. others were saying the handling charge was not displayed in the shipping cost but it sounds like your saying otherwise. and that is what it looks like when i purchase my own item.
YES> I am passing the shipping savings onto the customer, so to speak. it all depends on how you calculate profit on the item. the handling fee is for my bag, label ,ink only. I used to do it as a flat shipping fee with a tiny amount added into the shipping fee for supplies. so to figure profit it was 'sold for value x plus $3 shipping (example) so x+3-13%-3 minus item cost = profit on individual item.

I think there has been some confusion around the use of the term "displayed." When you set up a listing with calculated shipping and a handling charge, buyers should see a "display" of the total shipping and handling as a single price. So in that sense the handling fee is not "displayed" separately. But the handling fee should be automatically included in the total "Shipping and handling" that is shown to the buyer.

your looking at it all wrong. handling fee is for the cost of shipping materials only. different depending on item.
the fees from ebay and pay pal are built into the price of the item. the price of the item is always the item plus shipping. some do it as free shipping. some do it as item price plus shipping charge. either way the shipping charge is still there and the fees are paid. so when calculating profit on each individual item you have
item sold for price+ shipping cost = total sale
then
total sale - 13% fees-shipping cost-item cost= gross profit.

I May be assuming incorrectly but it kind of sounds like you used one account to actually complete a purchase on your other account. I hope I am wrong about that and you didn’t actually commit to buy because you might have another problem on your hands.

YES. I agree. when i thought displayed i was thinking $2.89 is displayed so its 2.69+ .20 and the buyer sees 2.89
so when some one said handling wasn't displayed I was thinking $2.89 was the shipping cost displayed and the handling charge was worked in later. which i found not to be true.
I've only just started using calculated shipping and handling charges. Until recently it was a flat fee for first class. My handling charge was included in the flat fee.
