If I choose to charge customers the discounted rate eBay has for USPS shipping is my handling charge reflected in the price shown to the buyer.
So what I'm asking is if the discounted shipping rate is $2.89 and my handling charge is $.30 is $3.19 displayed for $2.89?
Because when I look at one of my listings it seems like the handling charges not included?

@partsalot1 wrote:your looking at it all wrong. handling fee is for the cost of shipping materials only. different depending on item.
the fees from ebay and pay pal are built into the price of the item. the price of the item is always the item plus shipping. some do it as free shipping. some do it as item price plus shipping charge. either way the shipping charge is still there and the fees are paid. so when calculating profit on each individual item you have
item sold for price+ shipping cost = total sale
then
total sale - 13% fees-shipping cost-item cost= gross profit.
I could just as easily tell you that you are looking at it all wrong. We just approach it differently. I like to keep things simple and the math works out the same. Instead of passing on the discount and then adding handling, it seems simpler to just leave the setting to charge the buyer retail and you don't have to worry about handling fees to cover your supplies.

I am sure there is an eBay law that prohibits that action and I know it is there for a good reason.
If eBay wants to Close down an account that generates them ,on average, three thousand dollars a month in fees because I purchased my item to see what the end result was and then immediately canceled that purchase and put it back into my inventory then that's on them.
If they are that foolish. I will be happy go someplace else.
EBay employees add eBay management cannot be so robotic in their judgments on eBay regulations that intent is completely thrown from the process. It is very obvious my intent was not to wrongly profit from eBay or from a buyer.
I don't care if I only netted them one dollar in fees every month. It would still be foolish to close down an account because of what I did.

@fern*wood wrote:Why would you set your listings to pass on the discount to your buyers and then try to make it up with a handling fee? Don't set it that way---especially since ebay takes their cut, unless you want to pay part of the shipping costs for all your buyers.
FCP over 13 oz will show the buyer the shipping rate at Priority prices, so some sellers may want to pass along the online price to the buyer, so that the shipping shown does not deter sales.

not actually. You told me why I had a handling charge (assuming I was re cooping ebay fees through a handling charge).
I explained why you were wrong about my handling charge. I didnt tell you what you were doing. only what I was doing. I was merely stating you were wrong about my motives. thats what you were looking at incorectly so I explained my full intent.

Yes, I'm aware of that, so I never enter a weight over 13 oz. That works fine since 13 and up are the same cost now and if you don't enter 14 oz or higher it won't calculate as priority.

You seem to know about the shipping prices so I hope you will shed more light on thus subject.
how much is a 5oz first class package within my zone with a .20 handling fee added? I have the discounted shipping charges displayed.
because its displaying $4.59. that seems high after the discount.

Good grief. I saw what you stated your handling fee covered. My point is the same, you don't have to add handling if you charge retail. You seemed so upset about that handling fee, I was just offering an easy fix.

Make your own numbers that help for you, not for your buyers, and add it to your price.
I've seen, before the new rates went into effect that for a music cassette some of my fellow sellers were charging $4.99 while I was giving free shipping. And most of the times I was cheaper.
So, I don't give discounts of shipping. You buy 5 items, you pay for 5 items, 5 items I ship.

Yeah that one is showing retail rate plus .20 it’s not passing on the discount

I can estimate the price my item needs to be to match prices after shipping is considered IF I know what the calculated shipping is.
do you have any idea why some are passing on the discount and others aren't?

I really don't. I don't have any experience with passing on the discount so i don't know the ends and outs of it.
