has ebay been double dipping on shipping fees all along?

I just noticed that in the new payment management system we're charged 12.35% on what we charge for item + shipping and then another 12.35% for the actual shipping label cost. That brings the total fee percentage higher than 12.35% because of the double fee charge on shipping. Has this been going on all along?

What category was the item listed in? 

Was there sales tax paid by the buyer on the order? 

Was the buyer registered outside the USA?

you're saying ebay charges sellers 12.35% of sales tax? I don't think that's even legal.

No we aren't.  I think you just mis-read something.   It is 12.35% on the entire amount received, plus 30 cent transaction fee, period.

i think i've found the culprit...it's the sales tax! I've never noticed that there's been a fvf on sales tax (i've been doing this for over 20 years...go figure?). I can't even imagine that it's legal to charge a fvf on sales tax. Thanks you guys! But now i question charging a fee on sales tax...doesn't seem right.

I know your question has now been resolved, but it made me start thinking about something.   I thought that previously the fvfs on shipping were only charged for the actual postage amount when printed.  Now the fvfs are charged on the shipping charged to the buyer, which can include handling, so it is somewhat higher now.

Every business since the introduction of credit cards has been paying a fee on the entire transaction amount, including sales tax. Nothing illegal about it.

Do you know of a law that makes it illegal? PayPal did it, too.

Yup. That's what mam98031 and caldreamer tried to tell you at the start of this thread, but you brushed them off and and insisted it was a fee on the shipping label.
