Does anyone notice when they sell something and put the correct amount for shipping ....that we are in a whole taxed for the item sale & shipping price together...so now if you add up what's left and you gave a discount and still have to pay the price of shipping that is the rate at the post office that you posted .and ebay took their fees.....you lose money ....

Maybe I should have wrote this more clear ...I did not mean federal tax... I meant eBay tax... like after their fees and their taxes and regular flat rate shipping that are the new 2021 rates...and giving the buyer a discount....I lost money

Ya I was like ....wait...fees and tax and take from shipping too......not cool....so let's say I have to mail a item using a flat rate box at $9.30...and I sell the item for $10. Total $19.30....after fees, taxes. I did not make $10 off the item...because I still have to mail it costing $9.30.......it is wrong to take money from what it cost us to ship the item

@partfinds wrote:Yes I just saw it. It is recent. They also don’t refund any fees if you don’t refund fully. You can’t keep shipping to cover partial loss because they will keep all fees. Not sure what the seller protection is for?
That isn't as hard of a situation as you seem to think it is. Many of us refund our buyers for overpayment of shipping all the time. Especially when a buyer is purchasing several items and does not contact you for an invoice before paying, so they can get a discount on the shipping.
Happens all the time to me. I send my customers a canned email I developed years ago explaining I will be issuing them a refund for their overpayment of the shipping less my non refundable fees I have to pay. For the future if they follow the instructions in all my listings they can save a little more on the combined shipping.
I explain it a little more than that to them. But I send it before I issue the email. I print a copy of the email too and include it in my package with a personal note telling them how much I refunded.
This has served me well over all the years I've been selling.

@partfinds wrote:How do you edit your own posts? I can’t find edit or delete option in any drop down. Do you work for Ebay?
These are member to member forums. If someone that works for Ebay posts on any of these threads, the posts are well labeled. It will have the Ebay logo and the post will be outlined in Blue.

There is no option to delete a post. And as @downunder-61 stated the revise option only last for about 5 minutes after you posted the post. Then it disappears.

My items don’t sell in bulk. I don’t combine shipping as they are either big or heavy or fragile. I charge flat fee. I think that calculated shipping is non sensical.

Ebay doesn't have a tax either. Taxes can ONLY be applied by a government body. Ebay of course is not a government body. The taxes you see on your Buyer's invoice are ONLY State sales tax that Ebay is required by law to collect and remit to the states that require ALL Marketplaces to collect and remit.
Costs do to flat rate shipping is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are charging enough to cover your costs, not Ebay.
It is also the sellers responsibility to know about fees being charged on the site. We should all know that as it should be part of your process of gathering all your costs so you can more accurately set your Product price and your shipping costs.
You must consider your site fees, shipping costs, packaging materials, product cost, etc. Anything that goes into what you will be paying for to sell your item here. That is your responsibility to know about and track it for your OWN Federal taxes for the year.

Yes I noticed.... I refunded a buyer because she said something arrived damaged.... however I packed this thing thoroughly and tested it before I went and mailed it ....so it got damaged after I mailed it.....but I refunded her..... then I found out that unless I let her complain and open a case..... I could not be refunded for refunding her for the item arriving to her damaged

Levels the playing field.
$10 + $5 shipping.
$5 + $10 shipping.
$15 + free shipping.
Which seller should pay more in seller fees?????

Yeah that's crazy our sales tax here is 9%...so now I look at what I am buying and cost before I buy it......

You have been selling here for awhile. There is no good reason that you were not aware that for the past ELEVEN years you have been paying FVFs on shipping. Your time to complain about this move by Ebay has long past.
As for sales tax on shipping, that depends on the ship to address on the payment by the buyer. Some states require sales tax on shipping when it is on the same invoice as the product being purchased and some don't. Separately billed shipping is not usually taxable, however ALL of Ebay sales have the shipping on the same invoice with the product. But again, not all states charge sales tax on shipping.

There can be no such thing as an "eBay tax" since only a government entity can levy a tax.
If the buyer's state deems shipping to be taxable there is nothing for eBay to do but collect it.
If the costs involved in selling on eBay too much for your business to be profitable at your current prices, I would recommend that you reevaluate your pricing structure and adjust it so that you can. Of course, a lot depends upon whether you can realistically find buyers at the higher prices.
Since sales tax on S&H is something that is charged the buyer rather than the seller, why would that be of concern to you? Another question that comes to mind is why are you giving the buyer a discount if you are losing money in doing so?
