Does anyone notice when they sell something and put the correct amount for shipping ....that we are in a whole taxed for the item sale & shipping price together...so now if you add up what's left and you gave a discount and still have to pay the price of shipping that is the rate at the post office that you posted .and ebay took their fees.....you lose money ....

I never looked at any transaction before till now so I had no clue (about charging fees to tax) and I also misinterpreted as someone pointed. Dumb

You're confusing "tax" and "final value fees." Those are two totally different things.
There is no federal sales tax in the United States of which I am aware. I'm not sure of the actual rate charged by NY where you're located but I'm pretty sure that it exceeds 4% everywhere in that state.

There is NOT Federal sales tax.
Buyers pay State sales tax when appropriate.

@partfinds wrote:yeah I misunderstood. But still I think it is recent that they take fees from sales tax. They used to charge fee from shipping but fee from tax is new unless I missed it before.
Sales tax started for sellers in MP as of August 2020.
FVFs on shipping happened in April of 2011.

@partfinds No I don't work for eBay haha, click on the drop down arrow in the circle above the date - first option is Edit Post, but it only gives you 5 minutes, after that the option disappears.

As of a few years ago, the US Supreme Court decided to allow individual states to charge state sales taxes on internet purchases (2018 or 2019). eBay tried hard to prevent this from happening, but was unable to stop it.
As of now, there are about 45 states that have passed legislation to permit state sales tax to be charged as above. The tax is based on the buyer's location, not the seller's. It is charged to the buyer, not the seller, and, yes, eBay's FVF is now based on the item price, the shipping and the state sales tax, if applicable.
This was announced beginning about 3 years ago and we were continually reminded by eBay that it was coming.

It seems like the person in NY was asking as a seller, not as a buyer.

The image in your post shows how the drop-down menu looks if it has been more than about 5 minutes since you posted. Here's what it looks like before the edit time expires.

Now I understand . I can only edit within 5 min. What about deleting old posts? Is there an option?

The last item in the drop-down menu is "Report inappropriate content." You can use that to contact the moderators to explain why you want your post removed.

I'm not in NY. I made no mention of federal sales tax. What are you even talking about?

I think problem is solved and already clarified. I misunderstood.

I know about what the fees are before I list an item.
There can be a bit of a variable in the shipping cost, and the amount of sales tax that a buyer has to pay, so some difference in the fees that I have to pay, buy I sell nothing at the point that I "lose money".
I may make a little less here, and there, but that is a given which is factored in. Nothing sells at a loss.
Selling at a loss is not a good "business model".
