Why is it the sellers responsibility to leave feedback first, I think it should be buyer first. I got tired of leaving feedback first then basically having to almost beg for feedback, so I quit doing it

It is not the sellers responsibikity to leave feedback first. Thats simply not correct. While many sellers feel that is what they do/should do, its not a rule, its not a law, its not ebay required at all.
Sellers are usually in 2 camps on feedback.
1, leave fb once pymt received.
2, leave fb after buyer leaves fb.
If you leave fb right after pymt it might not be accurate if it turns out to be a bad buyer/scammer situation. Or if they leave negative fb that isnt accurate/lies, you've given a person like that a bump up when if you waited, you certainly would not have.
Leaving fb after buyer does, some claim is holding fb hostage. This is an incorrect view, as fb is not required by seller or buyer. The same people who would criticize a seller as holding fb hostage are the same who would tell a seller, their buyers are not obligated to leave them feedback, and not see the double standard they are promoting. Sellers who wait to leave fb are leaving fb for the entire transaction experience, not just getting paid. This way when you know things are good with the order, you leave fb. If things go bad because of a bad buyer/scammer, you can decide not to leave fb (since sellers can only leave positivie fb), and respond to their negative fb instead.

Actually, it's nobody's responsibility to leave feedback at all. Feedback is voluntary and either side can choose to leave it or not.
For sellers who leave feedback, some sellers leave it as soon as buyers pay. Other sellers wait to make sure the buyer is happy with their item before leaving it. And often, the way those sellers know a buyer is happy is that the buyer has left feedback.
For buyers, some wait for sellers to leave it, others leave it first and others don't leave it at all.
There are no "rules" about leaving feedback.
"almost beg for feedback, so I quit doing it"
I don't recommend asking for feedback. I've seen instances in which sellers bug buyers for feedback and the feedback left by some of those buyers were neutrals and negs with comments to the effect of "here's the feedback you kept bugging me for."

As a seller. I don't care what the feedback of a buyer is. I don't even look at what other sellers say about them. So i just give em a excellent ebayer aaaaaaaa++++++++. Id estimate my sales not in my favor ratio is somewhere in the .25% range. If you're constantly getting bad buyers id wager it's something you're doing wrong and may have started the moment they bought an item from you and you started with the paranoid delusions.

Agreed; I would say the reality is that it's the buyer, not the seller, who decides when the transaction is over by leaving their feedback, and then I (the seller) will do the same.
There is no point in leaving Positive feedback as soon as payment is received (which, after all, the buyer has to do anyway; it's not some kind of achievement on their part), and then get blindsided by a dispute or bad feedback later on, rendering your earlier Positive comments a bit misleading.

It isn't. Feedback is a completely voluntary process. You don't have to leave it at all if you don't want to, the same for the buyer.
FYI, begging buyers for feedback is a VERY BAD idea. I would highly recommend that you stop that practice right away if not sooner. At some point that will back fire on you and you will get feedback you absolutely do not want.

I think that's wise.
This cat and mouse game that some people play ("I won't leave feedback until YOU leave feedback neener neener") seems a little kindergarten. Buyer feedback is pretty meaningless - they can only get 100%, anyway. I use it when I ship to let my buyer know their item is on its way and to thank them for their patronage. I appreciate it when they leave me feedback, but it's not an expectation.

I leave (automatic) positive feedback for my customers thanking them for their purchase as soon as they buy something from me.

One more thing, - have yet to run into a person, even a total stranger, that didn't appreciate a "pat on the back"...
Of course, if you are in an office environment it is always best to only give a verbal "pat".
PS: Still hold the door open for the ladies of all ages - even the newer "She Who Must Be Obeyed". of 4.5 decades
PSS:: But have a deep "disdain" for these NASCAR driver "Wannabee" drivers of this era. True story -received my first speeding for going 26 mph in a 25 mph posted speed zone way back then when I had acne and driving a 51 Ford that I paid $150 cash.. Speeding fine $25.. Might have had something to do with the cut out exhaust system I recently installed on my ride..

If you are already tired of leaving feedback, change it to auto so that ebay does it for you. I leave it as soon as it ships and rarely have problems. Most people don't leave feedback anymore but I do appreciate the customers that take the time to do it very much.

Can you imagine the chaos this topic would be in, if Middaybreeze / Phanoto were still around? LOL

These days getting feedback from buyers happens about 40% of the time, if you're lucky. I leave feedback for every one of my buyers, whether or not I receive one from them. I may delay leaving it for a new member for 30 days, the end of my return period, then I leave one. Only because newbies tend to be more problematic.
Begging for feedback can have unfortunate results.

It is NOT a seller’s responsibility to leave feedback first. It’s just that you’re more likely to receive it if you leave it.
Let us know if your boycotting leaving feedback works out for you.

I leave FB for buyers on payment, it's free, there is no downside, some buyers like it, some buyers expect it. If you leave good FB to a bad buyer it makes no difference because buyer FB is irrelevant.
One more reason to leave auto FB is if it is a serial scammer it leaves a bread crumb that could potentially be followed

Actually you can learn stuff about your preceptionion as a seller from FB if you pay attention what other say vs what you think you are - - the POSITIVE,the NEUTRAL and the NEGATIVE and make adjustments as needed - unless one gets into a word exchanging brawl on the net.

I still leave it all on one day, maybe once a month or so. Buyers, sellers...almost like a month end close...
