I just listed an item, and meant to list it as an Auction, but listed it as Buy it Now. It sold immediately, before I realized what I had done.
I am wondering if I can let the buyer know, and re-list as an Auction? I would of course message them, and refund their order. I understand that it's tricky, but it was a genuine mistake.

You can cancel the order using the reason "Out Of Stock", you will receive a major Defect from eBay for doing so but if it's the only one then there will be no repercussions.
You buyer will still be able to leave feedback which might not be very nice.
Cancelling orders is one of the worst thing you can do.
If this is the dress you sold for $109, is it really worth more than that?

Take it as a learning experience and actually preview your listings in the link provided at the bottom of the listing page to double check for errors.

Not without breaking serious eBay rules. That can get a seller banned from selling for life.
I suggest you just go through with the sale and next time take more care.
Got to watch what you click here. eBay is light on undo buttons.

The only thing showing that you sold lately is a pre-owned dress for $109. I would just proceed with the sale. Many buyers won't do auctions now so unless it is really rare or in demand you won't get a ton more anyhow.

You listed it at the price you would accept if it sold at auction.
If buyer paid, I would ship and remember not to to do it again.

Your buyer purchased in good faith and thinks he got a great deal.
And if that was the starting price, you were clearly willing to sell at that price if there was only one bid.
You are about to tell him that doesn't matter, and you don't want to honor that deal.
Then he is going to see you list it at auction and perhaps sell it for more later on.
He will interpret that as seller remorse, and could really punish you for it if he wanted to.
No one can force you to ship the dress, but you may end up wishing you had.

I'd go through with the sale. It was listed in Fair condition, you mention 3 holes needing repairs... be shed of it.

Considering the condition, as shown, and described, I would take the sale and run. Personally, I would be concerned about a return.

You stated this in your description:
Condition: For repair. 3 or more breaks / holes to the knit, one near the armpit is the most noticeable. And some matting to the knit. Please see photos for details.
Clothing is a very competitive category on eBay. I realize that it being mohair might be conducive to a higher price than many other similar items. But I think you’re fortunate to get the price you did. Trying to backpedal now risks you not selling it at all, getting negative feedback from this buyer, and taking a major ding to your seller account from eBay. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that.

I remember once a long time ago I sold a very large item and had accidently clicked "free shipping".
I shipped it and that was a expensive lesson that I never forgot, since then I always look at the live listing as soon as I list it and look it over.

I don't think the $20-50 more you may get on a "for repair" auction is worth the heartache of cancelling the order. You were honest in listing it as only fair condition, meant to be a repair item. It may also have an unknown amount of moth damage that will be revealed on cleaning if it hasn't been cleaned already.
(also, it's "bell" sleeve, like a bell shape, not "belle" sleeve).
ETA: I've done this myself, so I do understand.

Take the cash and ship it ASAP before the buyer changes their mind.

@chapeau-noir , also, the “matting” they refer to in the listing is likely felting, which happens when animal fibers are cleaned at too high a temperature. It’s irreversible.

🖕I thought the same when I read the words "moth damage". It's irreversible.
