Did you mean:

ebay transactions shady

let me start by saying.  Please don't educate me on the history of Ebay. I have been here since 1998.

so I don't need feedback on everything I am doing wrong etc.. that's not what this is about.

and I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful.  I see it alot.  someone just sharing a post and they are attacked.

please don't do that.  I just want feedback on this matter.

I have listed a few auctions.  All of the are BIT or best offer.

I have had 3 of those auctions end now with a buy it now from a very sketchy ebay buyer.

They have followed up with emails using broken english.  The addresses do not check out on google maps

and the paypal funds are always on hold.

other deals i have done this is not the case.  I pack and ship the same day my things sell.  I am on top of it.

not only that, I follow up on delivery day with email ensuring transaction was to satisfaction.

nobody does feedback anymore.  They don't have time.  oh well.

however .  It just shocks me that not only paypal but ebay as well will leave sellers this vulnerable. to the point where one will most assuredly be ripped off with the famous never received package etc.. or nothing was in the package.  Ebay has completely shut down any ability to find out who you are truly dealing with.

So I have had to cancel 3 orders now.  i have refunded payment immediately and then requested to cancel the order.

i know this will eventually haunt me and I will be banned from selling because my rating will drop as a result of the cancellations.  What a mess.

Ebay has truly failed in this process.  its disgusting.  I know what a shady buyer looks like and what a shady address looks like.  feedback as well.  paypal funds on hold etc...

why did i share this?

wondering who else encounters this or is it only me because i am a new seller.

again, please refrain from the lecture . no disrespect meant.

i would like to stick to the issue .  if i am totally misreading the situation then by all means tell me.

thank you .  I am trying to build a small online business but I think it will be too difficult to achieve.

Re: ebay transactions shady

If you are a new seller or haven't sold anything in a long time the your funds will be on hold for 21 days or until the buyer leaves you positive feedback.  As long as ebay say it is ok to ship you should ship to the address given to you through the transaction and you will be covered. As well as if you upload the tracking and shows as delivered you will also be covered if they claim not received. If you think something is sketchy in regards to the buyers address and want to cancel you should choose problem with buyers address and you won't get any defect. I'm not clear on if this is what you did?

Re: ebay transactions shady

It's tough online being a seller, not just here. Don't think it's just an Ebay thing, because it's not.

I'm going to sum it all up this way:

Ebay does not care about you.

Paypal does not care about you.

Credit card processors do not care about you.

Shipping providers do not care about you.

Buyers do not care about you. (well, to be fair, most buyers don't care. Some of us still do.)

This is business in 2019 - buyer pays, you ship. Period the end.  Any and all protection needs to be done by the seller, because nobody is going to take care of you on a third party venue.  You have much more control when you have your own website, but even there sellers are still open to the same fraudulent chargebacks.

It's not easy and it can be financially dangerous selling online.  It is not for the faint of heart or the financially unprepared.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: ebay transactions shady

Could those 'sketchy' buyers with broken English and addresses that dont check out be using a reshipper? If so, you are only responsible for shipping to the reshipper, and the buyer has lost protection using that service. Since you have been here since '98,and you are aware that canceling three transactions will probably get you blocked from selling here, Im not sure why you decided to do that, but thats your business.

Re: ebay transactions shady

You will most likely get 3 defects for canceling those 3 items. Did paypal say it was OK to ship to the address given ?

Re: ebay transactions shady

You've gotten good advice..........

Two things.............since you are new, I would hold off listing expensive items.....scammers will prey on new sellers.....  not saying the buyers were scammers, just that you need to be very careful about what you list in the beginning.

Concerning "suspicious" addresses........you may be seeing forwarding companies for overseas buyers.  International buyers use those if sellers don't ship internationally....  While there are complaints about them, they handle a huge amount of business and many on here have never had trouble with them.  That MAY account for address/bad english.

Also, there are auctions and fixed priced listings.......  Auctions allow people to bid.......right now you have fixed priced listings with the word auction in the title.......which may confuse buyers......

Mean as helping, not as criticism

Re: ebay transactions shady

excellent posts and feedback.

THANK YOU.

I will break down the responses with my responses.

First: PARKER

i have sold about 500 worth of items over a two week span.  ONLY THE 3 buy it nows that were immediately suspicous had the 21 day hold.  otherwise i have been giving access to the funds immediately . its right there in my paypal balance.

coincedentally the usernames and address used were extremely similiar.  when i look at the feedback.

its all the same. nothing in last month or two and sometimes feeback from one seller 50 times.  manufactured feeback to appear as a legitimate buyer.

Second: SOUTHERN

well said.  thank you for your straight forward answer

Third: yes. secondary shipper being used. In one instance. other address was an empty lot

Fourth: cool

yes I understand.  thank you

Fifth: dhbook

everything you are stating is true.  its the reality of it.  and thank you . I will address my wording in listing.

THANK you folks.  I mean it.

Here is my question.  If everything you say is true. I can go ahead and shipped to address that paypal provides.  What is to say when item is received they don't dispute it claiming the box had a rock in it. or the item was not what is was in the listing etc... so many excuses can be made.  then I am out my item and I am out the money.

these buyers can take the time to create illegitimate accounts and then burn them to the ground with these claims and then move to another account.  hence the fake generated feedback which tends to lend them credibility.  especially with me being new. I have zero defense.

appreciate you all for sharing

The problem is that those things are going to end your selling career very quickly whether you like it or not.

The funds are on hold because of your new selling account. That has nothing to do with who bought your items. There is no need to Google the buyer address because it may just be a reshipper. Assume the address will be good because the buyer wants to get his item.

Do you not know how Delivery confirmation works? Item Not Received dispute just requires you to upload your tracking number showing that it was delivered.

Yes - and entirely self-inflicted.

Apparently you do not know what either a shady buyer or a shady address looks like - nor do you seem to understand funds holding. Many people have already tried to explain this to you here.

Its not because you are a new seller but because you jumped into selling without learning how it works or asking questions. If you had asked for input on your listings we could have told you that this huge disclaimer is unenforceable and not allowed: DUE TO FRAUD BEING AT AN ALL TIME HIGH ON EBAY I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL ORDER AND REFUND MONEY. THIS IS FOR SELLER PROTECTION BECAUSE EBAY DOES NOT PROTECT SELLERS

Now stop cancelling sales for no good reason and you may be able to keep selling things - but I would say that right now you are this close to Ebay shutting you down if enough of your cancelled buyers complain.

Any transaction to any address can go south with false claims.

Re: ebay transactions shady

The hold on those items would depend on what they sold for. If you had been selling a few lower cost items, then all of a sudden sold a pricey item that would generate a hold on those funds. As far as 'generated' feedback, thats just not possible, items must be paid for before you can leave feedback. With multiple fb's from the same buyer, that is not unusual, many sellers here are resellers, and buy in multiples with their buyer id.There is no way to prevent a buyer from claiming he got a rock or an empty box...but when reshippers are used, they do lose buyer protection. Not to be snarky, but are you sure you have been here since '98?

@bonjourami

We have lost seller protection from reshipping UNLESS the buyer basically confesses to having reshipped. Selling to a known reshipping address is not enough, nor is a foreign account, nor any of the other obvious proofs of reshipping.

Re: ebay transactions shady

You say you have been here since 1998, is this the first time selling?

What reason did you use to cancel?

Nothing can stop them from doing what you stated, but 1 thing you need to look at:

Per the items you are selling, these would be VERY LOW in the 'shady dealings' business as there is VERY LITTLE to gain stealing $40 items, and not popular type items (vs. Phones, Computers etc.).

On a side note: how are you shipping all those liquids safely and per the shippers instructions?

Dang, for real??

This obviously will change the advice given when it comes to reshippers. How long has this been in effect?
