I was a seller on ebay for 15 years and had to take a break. It's all different now, and I'm shipping orders through the USPS, not ebay shipping. I get messages from buyers saying ebay says they haven't gotten their packages yet, the ebay status just says tracking information provided, and in a few cases it says shipped. When I follow the USPS tracking status to USPS.com, it says "delivered". Why buyers don't realize they already have received the package is another matter, but does anyone know why ebay posts the wrong shipping status? This whole issue has gotten out of hand, I get 2 - 3 emails a week, and have had 3 cases filed against my store, even though USPS says the item was delivered. 2 cases were dropped after they "found" their purchased item, but I lost money on the 3rd (may be a dishonest buyer).

@brccoins wrote:Is there ever any issue with weight differences? Like you calculate one weight but the PO has another. I see what your saying and I'll likely switch but ebay shouldn't be operating this way not tracking correctly if you don't buy postage through them.
Out of the last ~2000 USPS shipments, I have had a couple additional fees assessed for incorrect weights.
I have also had a couple of credits to my account for incorrect weights. All chump change debit/credits.
Never have I had an issue with a UPS shipment. No extra charges, ever.
I hear that some sellers have some problems with FedEx randomly charging extra fees.
I have two excellent scales, one for the heavy stuff and one for the lighter stuff. I don't make many mistakes. If I do, it is probably a fat finger when typing.

I am going on the postings here that I have read every day during breakfast.
You could be the perfect shipper as a seller. And you are somewhat new. Wait a few years and get back to me.

Why?

10" X 5" X 2" 4 ounces is around $4. There is no way you can do better at USPS Retail.

I live in a small town and the PO needs my business
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Financial credit should go to the "ship from" zip when purchasing an "online" label.
Your "small town" PO is operating at a financial loss. (most are)
In 2021 I spent $4K on postage that was credited to my PO. They operate at a loss.
If offices were closed because they were not operation at a profit.......... most would be closed.

Sorry but you're the only person I've ever even heard about it from, plus or plain, past or present. Maybe you're thinking of the quarterly free shipping SUPPLIES for having a store.

When I sold here, I would upload the tracking number and take a picture of the USPS receipt with the destination and tracking number and send it in a message to the buyer so they can't say I didn't mail their item. The receipt shows the date and time it was mailed.

Thanks great answer. My problem now is I've lost a case even though I did all the required steps on their site based on many years of selling on ebay, and I can't even amend the response because ebay won't let me. They appear to be only looking at the buyer side, the buyer provided nothing besides I didn't received the item whereas I gave documented proof that the item was delivered per ebay's requirement. This is his 3rd such response in a month but ebay sides with him. The buyer made no response to me and ebay says I never contacted him, which I did thru their app twice. Very bad for sellers if this is the norm. I don't think they look at tracking unless the purchase of postage goes through ebay, which is not a seller friendly practice.
. There is something missing here. When a buyer files a INR claim with eBay the seller does not have to contact the buyer they simply have to upload the tracking information in response to the case showing the item was delivered. You do NOT have to purchase you labels through eBay but you do have to ensure the tracking information is in the order and the order is marked as shipped.
I have responded to several INR's, one just recently, where the package was delivered by USPS and all I did was upload the tracking information in response to the claim showing that the package had been delivered and eBay closed the case in my favor.
If you lost an INR and provided the delivery information appeal the case or contact eBay through the facebook connection.

I asked on the shipping board to see if I had dreamed up the additional discount and got an answer from a trustworthy poster: nobodys* perfect
"There certainly used to be such a benefit, though I don't see it mentioned in the current Help pages about TRS. But ALL sellers now pay less than the published Commercial rates for Priority Mail when purchasing postage through eBay, at least for some Zones and weights."

The actual tracking says it was delivered to city, state, zip on date which is the requirement based on the list ebay provides. The buyer put his case in the day it was delivered so I have my doubts on his honesty. I did get a revised ruling this morning that I had won my appeal case and that ebay would return the money they took. I also checked with my postmaster who said she could run a trace that gives more information, such as the actual address it was delivered to. I can use that with the other case I have that's pending. This pending case involves an item delivered 6 weeks ago and I'm guessing the buyer just forgot he has it. But we'll know more when the PO runs the trace. Again, I'm not sure why ebay treats tracking differently whether you buy postage through them or the PO, but I'll give the ebay method a try next opportunity.

They should treat the labels differently. When you buy through eBay, they know if you have used the address or made a revision. Buying a label on your own leaves open the possibility that you have entered the incorrect address.

Nah, I don't agree with that. If they want to prevent sellers putting a different address than the ebay-registered one, then they should just prohibit non-ebay-purchased labels, not allow it but then pretend that random ones didn't get DELIVERED. And I don't think that's what they're doing here, not to punish anyone for purchasing labels outside ebay anyway. I think the OP has probably only been able to reach overseas newbie employees who are just totally clueless about shipping in the U.S. and lack the English fluency to understand the OP's explanation. Heck even English-fluent people don't read or listen carefully enough half the time. Just look at his last reply, someone mistaking this for the ole' 'USPS not always doing scans' scenario, which has nothing to do with is actual problem, which he stated pretty clearly from the get-go.

There sometimes is a lag with the tracking on ebay. "Shipped" means basically you created a label. Probably just an ebay glitch (shocker). Just answer your customer with a screenshot of the USPS tracking and let them know it's on the way. A few times a week I check the shipping on the sold page. If it is still showing as shipped instead of in transit or delivered, I look into where it is. I feel it's best to get in front of any problems rather than waiting for a customer to complain.
Good luck to you tho and welcome back.
