ebay Livestreaming March 16th Event, and Questions

ebay has another "ebay Live" livestreaming event scheduled:

"Nov 16, 2022, 7:00 PM
eBay Live with Mojobreak (An ebay seller)
Join us live with Mojobreak for an in-app shopping experience and an expert dive into the world of all things trading cards including sealed boxes, rare sports cards, and more."

Source: https://www.ebay.com/eBayLive

No surprise: it's in an ebay Vertical: Trading Cards.

But if you want to get an idea of what this is like, you can watch it live on Nov 16th (the same day as the eBay Seller Check In). Of course, you need the ebay App to watch it.

As far as I know, ebay has not yet said whether the ability to Livestream will ever get beyond the Verticals and these "official" type Livestreams.

devon@ebay  Could you check with the Livestream Team and ask them if there are any plans to make this available to regular ebay sellers, and outside the Verticals? I know a lot of ebay sellers are interested in livestreaming, but so far, ebay doesn't seem to be interested in making this widely available. It would be good to know if it will be, and what the timeline might look like.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques I just heard back from the Listing Team and this is what they wanted to share:

"Thank you for choosing us as your go-to marketplace. At this time, we've invited a few select sellers to be a part of eBay Live since the program is still in beta stage. Be sure download the eBay app to tune in! We also encourage you to remain on the lookout for more information in 2023, as we plan to incorporate additional sellers in the future! ebay.com/eBayLive"

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

When you have time, can you explain a bit about these "live" selling events?  I have not signed up (is that required?) to view one.  Is there a place that they are advertised that I am missing as an avid eBay buyer?   I have read reviews about them, but for me all that comes to mind is QVC and other shopping channel events.  There are sellers in Facebook groups that have "live" selling events, and they are about the most tedious things I have ever witnessed, and I am GONE after less than five minutes.

I guess I just may be "jaded" from the old "live auctions" ebay used to promote here, that were discovered to NOT be live at all, nor auctions one could attend in person.  I do value your insight. Thank you in advance.

Re: ebay Livestreaming March 16th Event, and Questions

@ittybitnot

As far as I can tell, you NEED the ebay phone app to watch these...Do you have the ebay app on your phone?

The ebay page to go to for PC users is here: https://www.ebay.com/eBayLive

But that page is not terribly informative. And the instructions seem a bit confusing. It says to download the app, and then "create a new account"----but you don't need a new ebay account, you can use your existing account. And it says to make sure "push notifications" are enabled for your account, which means (I think) that ebay will text you (and maybe PM you) when a new one is being offered.

Currently, there is an invitation to attend the newest event on the ebay home page on my phone. It says to "register" but in fact, I think all you do is click it and it tells you they'll send you a reminder. I don't think you really need to "register" (and of course, it's free). I'm guessing they do this just to get some idea of how many people to expect.

Now, I have the app, and I don't know whether this works if you don't have the ebay app, but it might: Use your phone's browser to go to the ebay live site I linked above. Once there, you will see past ebayLives and they'll have a replay button. Click that button and you should be able to watch the replay on your phone. (of course, since it's a replay, you won't be able to buy any of the stuff they are selling). That's the best way to see how this works. And yes, it is very QVC-like, and , from a viewer perspective, a lot depends on whether you are interested in what is being sold and also whether the presenters do a good job or not.

(Note: the replay button doesn't work on my PC when I go to the Live page, that's why I say to use your phone's browser)

As far as I know (I haven't watched them all) they have been fixed price, not auctions (although that could change at some point) and you can chat (text) while it is live. But really, if you want to get a better feel for this, I'd recommend watching a little bit...

Re: ebay Livestreaming March 16th Event, and Questions

Thanks devon@ebay    Would have been nice to get a little more detail from the Team, but at this point I'll basically just assume this is not likely to be available to sellers like me anytime soon , if ever.

Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques. Thank you for choosing us as your go-to marketplace. At this time, we've invited a few select sellers to be a part of eBay Live since the program is still in beta stage. Be sure to download the eBay app to tune in! We also encourage you to remain on the lookout for more information in 2023, as we plan to incorporate additional sellers in the future!
