to replace the current listings based experience - and it will become the only way to shop on eBay, according to the company's CEO Devin Wenig. From ecommercebytes.

If auctions get the axe, this could finally be the lucky break for eBid. Perhaps they will finally no longer be a joke of an ecommerce site. Then again, they really do not deserve the attention either, considering their willingness to accept those lifetime subs from hopeful sellers looking for alternatives; and then doing nothing at all to promote themselves or their customers. They would also need to get themselves changed over to a .com site instead of .net. I suspect that is also a major factor in them still being largely unknown for the past decade or however long they have existed.
One feature of their auction format that I have always thought was neat is that you can set your listings up so that the auction clock does not start ticking until the first bid is received.

Re: eBay will move to a new "product based" shopping experience on a large scale this year
After having read the spring seller update also, IT would seem that ebay intends to move to a store subscription based site as well.

As will DuckDuckGo. Don't forget that they also have product search now, and they respect your privacy.

I don't really use auctions that much anymore. Sometimes I will start a listing out as an auction format, and then change it to BIN if it doesn't sell. eBay doesn't like telling us about lots of changes until the last possible moment or after the fact. Like now.

So one of a kind, custom made or vintage hard to find parts will be finished. Most of the stuff I've bought from Ebay, I bought there because it could not be found any place else, and most of what I sell is custom made for a niche consumer market. With that business model everybody will just go user groups on face book or to Amazon or Wal-Mart for mass production products.

If eBay doesn't let people sell used (books) I will end up listing it all on Amazon and making THEM money, while making less for myself... and making eBay NOTHING! It's a complete loss for eBay. A slight loss for me. And a gain for Amazon.
Where did you hear that ?

Have you seen how messed up the catalog is regarding books? I don't see it as not being allowed, more like wasting your time trying to.

@the_fancy_fox I see no difference. I can still search by lowest, highest, ending soonest etc. I can still see the list of 120,000 books I searched. If I chose, I can also narrow down by category etc. Looks easier than it has ever been. Ebay will still let you list books here.

I would go somewhere else too.
The problem is not with the shop, the problem is from the outside parties pretending to be helpful, but in fact, sabotaging customer relations by manipulating listings to sell at less than half price.
Automatically changing my product prices overnight, again, this is false advertising, deceiving the customer and projecting a false impression of product value and the cost to supply them.
I have also had messages from ebay emplyees posing as customers try to pressure me into lower my prices with crass emails.
This puts the burden on the seller to explain to the customer why an item seems to have increased in value.
Ebay is well aware of the deceptive tricks that they pull.
What form of professionalism is that?
There is, without a doubt, favortism and conspiracy amongst ebay employees, and the whole company targeting the sellers.
They hover policies over everyone else's head, and yet the company never follows them.
We should all be aware that ebay employees are also within the community forum manipulating arguments with biased comments that reflect excuses for ebay's bad practices.
This disrupts the integrity of the entire marketplace.

If I have to wade through 3 million listings to find what I want, I suggest they revise their search program.

I am wondering how this will effect my business. I sell handmade items. I am the creater. This is not my only avenue, but it is my best online. The way I read one of the ariticles, made it seem to be more, phone and electronic based changes. Not so much on the other things. Do I have that wrong?

Just sell now and don`t worry never know what will happened in future and specially with Ebay. Many things can change. Those who remain complacent for now and do not take any action to protect their interests, by building their presence on other sites will be the ones blindsided and placed into a financial pickle and suddenly find themselves overloaded with emergency actions to start establishing themselves elsewhere when the axe falls.
Do you also wait until a big financial crisis hits before looking at perhaps building up some emergency savings, or wait until the first big winter storm or other major weather event hits before winterizing your home or otherwise prepping for known disaster threats in your area?
A complete and total wait and see attitude is one of the most dangerous stances one can take. The writing is possibly on the wall here. If everyone who does not deal in the new in package Chinese garbage just waits and sees how this develops further does not take just in case measures to hedge their bets, they will find themselves in the midst of a sudden panicked crunch that will take valuable time away from doing the things that actually generate sales.
At least now we have enough warning and can see the clouds on the horizon to where we can casually take our protective measures at a non frantic pace without heavily interrupting our operations in the here and now.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best

In books you really CAN'T narrow your search by category because there's so much bleep in Cookbooks that shouldn't be.
