to replace the current listings based experience - and it will become the only way to shop on eBay, according to the company's CEO Devin Wenig. From ecommercebytes.

That explains the link I saw yesterday. It had an Amazon type link to see new or refurbished items cheaper.

People have the attention span of about 2 minutes or less trying to find something they want. They can click that box, faster, and then go through whatever else to compare.
The issue isn't that there is too many listings for iphones, the issue is that when you search for iphones you get a billion listings for cases, cords, pictures, parts, broken, other phones, scams, preorders and stuff shipping from China.

Yep. Same here. I'd rather pay extra per month and know I can pull the plug anytime I like without their ridiculous termination penalties.
That may garner them more $ in the short term, but it won't last.I went month to month on my store(s) well over a year ago; maybe two years ago. I do not at all regret the extra $5 or whatever it is per month that I paid.
Mine is up for renewal on March 1st. I think I'll at least go month to month for a while, then if I decide to do a year at a later time, at least I'll be out of the cycle I've been in, where it renews just before earth shaking news in the spring update.
As far as the product page thing, I'm not too worried. For the last few years I've tried to procure things that don't fit the "mold". Most of my listings are not just the only ones on ebay, but the only ones on the whole internet.

Ebay has been telling everyone what they are doing for years.... and no matter what they say, people don't believe them. This has been planned for years, maybe not down to the exact details but the general direction was laid out years ago.
It goes back to, and is part of the disruptive innovation they started years ago. Remember: "To destroy the "old" marketplace, cart off the debris and rebuild a foundation for a new marketplace" what did people think was the "old"? Disruptive innovation in itself means a radical approach or change from the business norm. It doesn't mean small insignificant changes. It is supposed to be a cataclysmic event. It usually applies to outsiders because insiders are too close and tied to the old ways. As a matter of fact "disruptive innovation" in itself recommends getting rid of the "old" employees, partners, suppliers or sometimes even customers because they can be a hindrance to change. It is building a new marketplace from the foundation.
"China is our future"
"Target the 40 percent of the market who is solely motivated by low prices"
"Target shoppers who have more time then money"
all paraphrased of course...
There are many more examples of eBay telling you where they are headed, but many people buried their heads in the sand and didn't plan for the future, while eBay has planned for their future....
There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

Product based online marketplaces are a dime a dozen on the internet now. Why be like everybody else?
Meg got all gunky icky pooey about the flea market/garage sale image of eBay too.
I don't know why these CEOs take over and are dying to change what made eBay unique.
It's like marrying somebody but having this huge list of THINGS TO FIX ABOUT MY TRUE LOVE on your mental fridge. With little flower and butterfly magnets.

What a bunch of baloney! eBay product pages are a miserable failure - they list used and refurbished diapers, condom, toilet paper, for God's sake! Everybody hates them, both buyers and sellers. Does top brass really believe it's a future of eBay??? Epic fail!!!!

@vintagecraze50wrote:I think what this new marketing strategy is is to put the more common things that most people end up shopping for with UPC numbers etc in the forefront so that people can find these items easily. It has creates competition among these sellers in the race for the best price best product etc. and competion among websites. This all means that your listings had better be top notch with great photos, descriptions identifiers, and you better use terapeak or other pricing giudes to be in the ballpark. As far as people selling other stuff other than this I do not think it makes a difference EXCEPT, if you want to run with the big boys you better be up to par on your generous return policy, fast and free shipping and all the perks or else you will be at the bottom of the barrel on these featured items. Handmade items. antique items and stuff where there is no product identifiers do not fit into this strategy well and people just hit the search bar and find them anyway.
Hopefully, if they can. Ebay has their blinders on when it comes to those types of items.

If 'US Only' was defaulted on the .com site(as it should be), that would eliminate half of thr junk listings. If it actually worked right, it would eliminate the other half.

Yeah. So many listings. What am I going to do!
Buyers use filters to search like they always have. They don't start out with 'millions' of choices. An exaggeration to the nth degree to make a point?

Well, I will certainly be going month to month from now on. Been here for 19 years, but this may be the last. Who Knows?

It would be nice if eBay offered options, like "American Sellers Only" in the search.
