It's a grant. They just give it away.

Loans are paid back. Grants are not.
The window to apply for this year's grants closed a week ago and they usually announce the winners at eBay Open (in September this year).
You can do an internet search and find tons of news articles, videos, interviews, press releases, etc about Up & Running Grants @golddigger21 .

I applied the first couple years it started. I soon realized I didn't have much of a chance. It appears that they are looking for sellers that fit a specific demographic, which definitely wasn't me.

What if it's all dark complected females getting selected.
There might be favor for refugee immigrants too.
From what I understand this type of thing is purely posturing, it will all favor a certain group of people.
Maybe eBay accepting money from Black Rock to increase their United Nations ESG score is not good.
The girl who started the topic has no chance of winning any grant if an organization is funded by politically active private equity firms. They will not let you win if you have blonde hair, this is what happens with companies influenced by ESG and DEI mandates. Some is law, some is policy that has gotten way out of control.
It's not what they say it is.
They will punish a beautiful woman like the original poster, to push their agenda.

I think they're looking for sellers they can use as a promotion for eBay.

Wow! A bunch of sour grapes here!
I applied for the Up and Running Grant. I got the application in on time, and received an email from the company conducting the process (Hello Alice) that I will know in September. This company appears to be in the business of providing grants and financing to small businesses.
Why did I apply? Well, you need to be in it to win it. I looked over the extensive application and reasoned that not a lot of folks are going to go to all that trouble, many won't have a plan nor the business skills to write the proposal.
For me the process was good for my business. It forced me to sit down and write a business plan. I outlined my progress to date and exactly what I hoped to achieve with the grant funds. If nothing more I now have a better plan. It took me the better part of two days to do so.
I am not a haphazard used left sock seller, I'm a stamp dealer who serves a specific market with a pretty good plan for growth. And I'm a 65 year old white male. So we will see what happens.
