eBay so messed up

Lots of people want Classic,PayPal and old way back including me. Why should they repost my items when I probably don't want too and use my points, also they want S.S. numbers for their new pay system and I won't do it so guess I will have to quit selling which has been bad  lately anyways .

Correct. You either provide the information ebay has requested for Managed Payments and enter into MP, or you stop selling here.

That's your choice.

Everything you mentioned ..

  • dropping PayPal in favor of Managed payments
  • dropping classic view in favor of the Seller Hub
  • dropping single-duration listings in favor of Good 'Til Canceled

... has been a long-term, multi-year effort and IMHO all those ships sailed long ago. Short of a catastrophic event, I suspect eBay is committed to all of them. And the trickle of sellers trumpeting their departure has not seemed catastrophic.

But just to be clear, you do not "have to" stop selling, you are choosing not to continue.

Re: eBay so messed up

Good Morning - and I see you are already helping more folks here today, BUT, I think in this case this poster is well aware that if they dont give SS number they have to stop selling, in fact, they even state that.  AND here's a question for you, what do people do if this new EURO payment processer gets hacked with all this information, YOUR SS number, YOUR bank account info, do you just call Ebay customer service and they make everything right??

NOW, of course this COULD NEVER HAPPEN - right???

Re: eBay so messed up

Yes Lucky - I have a quick question for you and a comment as well.  TRICKLE of sellers - How do you know that??  I see even on the Yahoo finance boards there are people commenting about this NIGHTMARE Mangled payments -

AND with so many accounts that you have to manage, how do you find the time to impart such meaning(ful or less) information here??

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and comment, I'm sure it will be a doozy!!!

Re: eBay so messed up

Sure it could happen........

what do people do if this new EURO payment processer gets hacked with all this information

the same thing the will do if paypal/facebook/Amazon/IRS.........or any entity gets hacked.....

What do you do if walking across the street, you get hit by a car?  There are "dangers" everywhere, individuals have to make their own decisions as to how much risk they can tolerate......

Re: eBay so messed up

Exactly right - and this is why SO SO SO SO MANY posters here are commenting about this, apparently many feel ITS NOT SAFE to do this, ESPECIALLY with companies that have shown there is little concern on issues of ANY NATURE, just look at these boards and all the issues there are.   THE LARGE MAJORITY basically state, NOTHING WAS DONE, so I am still wondering, should I walk in front of that car?????????

I don;t "know" anything about it. I am simply posting my opinion. I am basing it on the fact that eBay has 165 million active users, and I've only seen perhaps 100 sellers post here saying they are leaving.

There certainly are a lot of people complaining about Managed Payments, but complaining and leaving are two different things.

eBay will release their Q1 2021 results at the end of the month; I'm curious to see what their GMV will be compared to last year. IMHO a sharp dip in GMV will be an indicator that a lot of sellers are leaving and taking their sales with them. If GMV is essentially flat, I would suggest it is not affecting eBay very much.

I will also be curious if they state the percentage of sales that were handled by MP versus PayPal. I think last quarter it was about 35%.

It is not very hard to manage 6 selling accounts with slow-moving, niche merchandise. It takes perhaps a half-hour a day.

But then again you've posted more than I have today, so perhaps you already know the answer!

Re: eBay so messed up

Yes, the answer if probably their numbers will look good because this program is really just starting, BUT as the Brooklyn Dodgers used to say, WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR, and again, your post makes it read like you have inside information, and you dont answer questions directly, ???????,

And you forgot to mention your packing of items from 8 different accounts, and all that takes 30 minutes???  Man, you are, well, um, a GOOD EMPLOYEE????

Sorry, I don't work for ebay, I don't know what substitutes ebay might be willing to accept.

You would have to tell us why you don't have one before we could answer that question.

How many is SO SO SO SO MANY? Maybe a couple hundred, out of millions of sellers?

Guess what? This where people go to complain, so it's no surprise that there are MP complaints here. Would you walk into a hospital and be surprised to find sick people?

Re: eBay so messed up

You have to figure out of those 165 million "active" users only a percentage are actually sellers. There are lots of people with two accounts one for selling and one for buying.  Add to that the scammers that cycle through multiple accounts never closing out the old ones, the people that left long ago and never closed their accounts, etc. and you get a figure that is grossly inflated by eBay.
