Re: eBay site Registration question

not that I know of........  we get alot of questions from sellers from other countries who sell on the site.....Israel, Morocco, Canada, etc.

Whether it's just because they show up on the site because they ship here.....or what rules there are, I don't know.

I think you may have to address that question to ebay, itself.  The UA, it seems, does not mention it and the only thing I have found, thus far, is that it is helpful that the 'item' has a location mentioned ("Buyers like to know where the item is being shipped from ....").

Like ebay states in the UA help pages, "Being upfront and honest about these terms (terms of the transaction) helps build trust and provides a positive buying experience .... ."

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

I was reading "to sign on the US site" as a distinction from just selling on the site........  but I don't think the seller location matters for selling here....... we can sign in on other sites, sell there without signing in.......i.e. just because we ship there.

I just answered a question from what looked like a US store.......but the seller is from Japan and the items are clearly marked from Japan,  and they show up in search as being from Japan.

I know we can open a store on other sites, UK has been mentioned.......but I believe we would pay their fees.

Re: eBay site Registration question

@dhbookds  Let me re-phrase ... "register to Sell" on the US site, not just signing on.  I just seem to remember somewhere in the past I read that in order to Sell on the .com site (US site) the Seller had to have a US address and physically be located here, I agree with that, otherwise we'd have millions of Sellers signing up here from around the world.  They should have to sign up in their own country.

When I sell outside the US I don't register to sell in the countries I ship to, I use Site Preferences to turn countries on or off ... that's what the tool is there for.

@gracieallen01  I think you might be right although I seem to recall reading something a while ago that to Sell on the US site the Seller had to be located here with a US address.  Folks can sell from other countries and their items be visible here by setting up Site Preferences so the US is a country they ship to.

Anyone, buyer or seller who opens an eBay account can buy and sell on any eBay site.

As you know buyers have basically no rules while sellers do have to qualify in order to sell, sellers have to qualify under the rules of their home site if there is one or .com if they are from a country that does not have a local site.

The requirements to qualify as a seller are not onerous, credit card for fee payments and the various "agreements" for returns, international selling etc.

There is absolutely no requirement for ANY seller to have an address in the country they list on. US Sellers can sell on ANY eBay site just as a German seller, Australian seller or Chinese seller can.

There was a post recently from a seller from India who was having trouble listing on .com, I looked up the rules for ebay.in, they are more involved (identity verification & financial information) than the rules for US Sellers and there are additional requirements simply to sell internationally never mind list directly on .com.

Of course if you are legitimate then these requirements are not at all difficult to comply with.

Re: eBay site Registration question

Forgot to add.......

There is no eBay site for Japan so sellers from that country have to sell from one of the other eBay sites, most commonly .com.

Re: eBay site Registration question

I can also confirm that it is not necessary for a seller to have a US address to sell on com. ...I don't have a US address.

Re: eBay site Registration question

I always thought it was that you don't need to be registered on dot com to sell here (unfortunately) but you can't REGISTER your ID on dot com without a US address.

I can sell on eBay Canada but I'm still registered in USA

Re: eBay site Registration question

When I moved from down under I had to reregister an ID as it was going to be WAY too complicated to sell on dot com with an Aussie registered ID but actually BE in the US.

Re: eBay site Registration question

I'm seeing three different discussions here.

1.  Register an account on the .com site.  A primary or or additional account, no matter if for selling, buying or posting.  I don't know if there is any residency requirement since .com is a global TLD and not country specific.

2.  Log into and sell on the .com site (listings created here) if your registered account is on another country specific site (.ca, .co.uk. .fr, .in, etc.).  We all know that is possible and happens often.  Some have reported restrictions when initilayy listing, while others don't seem to face them.

3.  List only on other country sites but have your listings appear here.

Side note to number one above, we've seen where US residents have registered accounts on the UK site and created listing there.  That indicates there are no residency requirements for that either.

Okay, by "selling on eBay Canada" do you mean you log on to eBay.ca, create listings there and the item Location then shows USA?  If indeed that is the case then foreigners with foreign eBay site registrations can log in to the US dot com site, create listings and the Item Location will show their home country ... right?
