I am a novice to selling and 5 of my auctions ended at $0.99. eBay charged me $0.97! With the other fees and taxes, I had to pay $0.56 to sell my item! With $1 parking, I was down $1.56.
eBay charged me a fee for USPS shipping! I put the actual cost ($8.55 for padded envelope) and eBay is charging me $0.87 to mail it! This is ridiculous.
So, a $5 sale, I ended up with $2.90; for a $14.50 sale, I ended up with $11.18. Check it out for yourself! Look closely at the eBay invoice - and also take into account the paypal fees and cost for shipping.
This is usury and Congress should review and close down eBay.

This is not your first Rodeo with a 99 cent auction result, only difference is perhaps an additional 2 cent fee for taxes paid by the buyer. With over 200 sales the fees that ebay charges should be quite transparent.

Usury? Give us all a break and stop trying to play couch lawyer.
You've sold stuff before so you can't claim ignorance of the fees.
Your rant should be ".99 cent auctions aren't guaranteed to sell for enough to cover my fees."

I had to go look it up. lol (need to remember this one for scrabble)
USURY - interest at unreasonably high rates, loan shark
With $1 parking, I was down $1.56.
I haven't been charged parking fees on e-Bay? My fees are already more than I like, so I wanna be sure to avoid whatever parking spot you landed on.

They are also charging you a fee on the tax collected as well.

Be thankful you learned an inexpensive lesson. Starting auctions at 99 cents is pointless unless you are trying to pas something along so it doesn't end up in a landfill. I've been known to take a nice tax write off by losing a few bucks on an item acquired for free. Loss leaders or lost leaders is what they are called in retail.

1. How would you figure out in advance what eBay fees would be on listings, like auctions or listings that have best offer options shipping costs that can vary by ship to zones, combined shipping, etc.? Too many variables - at best eBay could only give a SWAG which is risky business.
2. The best thing to do is read and understand what eBay fees are by reading this eBay link before you start listing and set your sell prices -
3. OH a new seller really needs to understand their shipping costs, shipping options, what a dimensional weight is - this takes some reading and time. Start with USPS, then go to UPS and then FedEx. Personally I've only ship via USPS

When they start charging parking fee's, I think it's time to leave. 😀

"With $1 parking, I was down $1.56"
Well if you've been paying parking fees on all those 141 sales you've had..no wonder you cant make any profit!

Fees based on (purchase price + shipping costs + sales tax) plus 30 cent handling. Additional fees could also apply sure as "promoted items or international money exchange".

I don't have the time to go research what you are selling for 99¢ but for the items I sell, I would never use eBay shipping...especially for International Mailing. For many sellers, their shipping fees are discounted, but for me they want to ship in the wrong packaging, etc. I ship most everything by First Class mail and utilize the "letter size" envelopes ( up to 6" X 9" ) and postage is very minimal. For some reason they want to stick everything in a "package" size mailing and cost goes out of control. Anyway, you should take a look at trying to reduce shipping costs by doing it yourself. I don't know what to say about the parking fees 🙂

You did not sell those 5 items for 99 cents. You sold them for $9.54 each. What buyers pay is what Ebay charges. Scamming on shipping to lower cost was gone many years ago.

Fees are "horrible" when you are on the paying end.
Fees are great when you're on the receiving end!

I had no idea that the fees would be so bad - example:
$5 (win), $8.55 (USPS shipping - actual cost).
So, for my $5 win - ($1.04 tax) - ($0.72 paypal fee) - ($0.51 eBay fee) - ($0.87 shipping fee) = $2.90.
I'm going to start another post soon - about how eBay is bilking $0.01 out of sellers!
