eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

This is a rare video game that is no longer made. I had it as $100 which is the going price on ebay, there are lots of other sellers selling it for $130+

. We are aware that this is a video game, but it is obvious that you are taking advantage of the current situation. If you choose to relist this item, please be reasonable with your price. If you do not follow this policy in the future, this may result in the removal of your listings and the suspension of your account.

eBay price gouging policy states: "Items that are considered essential must be offered at a reasonable price"

how is a video game an essential item? Am I no longer allowed to sell rare video games and risk my account being banned for price gouging? My price was fair, and it was the same price as before the virus.

eBay is getting a little ridiculous

How ridiculous is this!  I just had a listing of 4 Funko Pops removed for"price gouging".  They weren't even particularly high priced.  I think it was $60 for 4.  I hope none of my other listings get hit.

Maybe I should just start reporting everything I want to buy that is more than I think I should have to pay for "price gouging". Hey, as far as I am concerned, 78 RPM jazz records and classic Porsche parts ARE necessary items!😀

Seriously... eBay... step on this NOW. Don't be stupid.

To heck with those, George.
What about those 8-tracks you got and have been listening to these days...?

What a sh!t-show. Typical eBay nonsense. I don’t know why anybody continues to sell here. I’ve moved the mass majority of my product to other venues. It’s so much more relaxing and enjoyable to sell on platforms that are well managed.

I know, I'm just floored by this comment! Why on earth would someone list an item for what they paid for and eat the fees?

Ahhhhh, because they are an altruistic person or a good samaritan or wealthier than Bill Gates - and need a hobby?

How did I make it as a child without a certain video game?  Oh, wait they weren't really around.  We played with dolls and outside.  I remember getting the generic Atari, which was the Intelivision?  Something like that, but by no means was the system or any game a necessity.  We were poor back in those times.  To think that someone would say a video game is essential is mind blowing!!!  Are these 18 year old kids running ebay?  No adult would find this remotely essential.  Heck, I played paper dolls by cutting out pictures from the old Sears and JC Penney catalog and had a blast.  As a family we had game night which was usually some kind of board game or Win, Lose Or Draw.  Remember that?  Showing my age, but I cannot wrap my head around this.  What's next?  Chanel, Louis Vuitton being essential items?  Maybe if people stopped reporting everything they saw this kind of craziness wouldn't have happened.  I was always taught to mind my own business and that nothing is as important as your life and your family.  Things can be replaced, people can't be.

I'm just surprised some certain poster hasn't come along to say that if you can't source it at less than half rrp you're doing it wrong.

I'm sure all of this could be fixed easily..........

Why is "price gouging" even a choice in certain categories when you go to "report an item"?

I just checked antiques and its an option.  Why?  That makes absolutely ZERO sense.  Video games........why even give someone the option to use "price gouging" to report an item?

Also, if ebay is going to start dictating the price of non-essential items like video games, what prices are they going off of?  A video game could be one price at Walmart and be another price at Best Buy.  Paper towels, same thing.  A place like 7-11 consistently sells rolls of paper towels for $3+ each roll whether its now or 3 months ago, but a place like Walmart that gets the lowest cost can order a whole warehouse of paper towels and could consistently sell it for $9.99 for an 8 pack.

Makes me wonder how the hell ANY of us 70's/80's kids ever made it to the AOL age...!!! 😲 Can you BELIEVE how many "necessities" we were were ALL deprived of?!?! 😭 (Unless we had silver spoons in our mouths & mommy/daddy were independently wealthy & could afford all the items that people GOUGED like NINTENDOS and VCR'S & such... 🙄 )

Dear lord what will they think of next.... 😣

eBay is clearly being run by spoiled millennials (apologies to any cool millennials out there...)  👶💲💵desktop🎮

They took issue with mine and I was asking less than $42 for a sealed big box.  The message said,

"Because this item is susceptible to price gouging, it may be sold only by authorized sellers. Do not relist this item."
