eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

This is a rare video game that is no longer made. I had it as $100 which is the going price on ebay, there are lots of other sellers selling it for $130+

. We are aware that this is a video game, but it is obvious that you are taking advantage of the current situation. If you choose to relist this item, please be reasonable with your price. If you do not follow this policy in the future, this may result in the removal of your listings and the suspension of your account.

eBay price gouging policy states: "Items that are considered essential must be offered at a reasonable price"

how is a video game an essential item? Am I no longer allowed to sell rare video games and risk my account being banned for price gouging? My price was fair, and it was the same price as before the virus.

eBay is getting a little ridiculous

Ebay does not have the manpower or the experience you have to identify if an item is counterfeit.

Oh what's this? More counterfeit games galore on ebay! Isn't this fun! See everyone, now you can buy any N64 games brand new for just $33! There is no way! And remember sellers, if the prices for your legitimate Nintendo 64 games are more than the prices of fake copies you are price gouging, and you don't offer reasonable prices like the counterfeiters do. Shame on us all for selling legitimate products, such a travesty!

"Ebay does not have the manpower or the experience you have to identify if an item is counterfeit".

Exactly, eBay also has 0.0 experience in determining if the price of a rare video game or any other collectible item is price gouging.

Bingo. Unfortunately, that won't stop them though. Like I said in another thread... it seems eBay is where the Dunning- Kruger Effect intersects the Peter Principle.

“Ebay does not have the manpower or the experience you have to identify if an item is counterfeit.”

Isnt that the point? If they don’t know if something is counterfeit or fake, how can they possibly assign a value to the real thing?

And ebay does know counterfeits are on the site and that the Chinese are the biggest listing offenders when it comes to counterfeiting and fakes.

i used to buy plants and seeds here. I reported these example along with many others for YEARS and guess what! Chinese sellers and still in business.

Square melons ARE possible IF you use a mold. There is no variety that grows this way.

This one of the multicolored rose  is 100% photoshopped fake.

And I won’t post the picture of the Milk Melon as I would get slapped for it. The milk melons? Are an art sculpture in a restaurant in Vietnam. Seeds? 100% scam.

I have a neighbor that knows I am an avid gardener and he was all excited when he told me he bought Milk Melon seeds off ebay! Imagine his disappointment when he found out they were fake. He no longer buys on eBay.

Maybe if ebay cleaned house and held the Chinese to the same standard they do American sellers ebay would regain a better reputation.

Re: eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

If ebay doesn't have the knowledge to spot what a counterfeit game looks like, then who are they to tell sellers what prices are reasonable for them? I just showed proof their platform is loaded with counterfeit games for sale, ebay is way out of line here.

ebay has the nerve to insist you're price gouging when the platform openly promotes the sale of counterfeit games on a very wide scale.

Re: eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

I'd like a list too...

I'm going to be done with the GPK cards today, and headed into the mess of my basement... I have a boatload of puzzles, craft supplies, board games, cards...  All things people are going to want because of cabin fever and needing things to do... How on earth am I going to figure out which ones may earn me a slap because they are "essential"  items now?

I'm pretty sure I have a few boxes of sidewalk chalk... is that on the list?  I mean it's all over the news that kids are using them to leave cute messages for their elderly neighbors.

I have a few twilight board games down there... bought em years ago paid I think (would have to look) 9.00 for em off the clearance rack.  Sold the first few for 30.00 was thinking about listing the ones I have left to see if I could get rid of them at the same 30.00 is THAT going to be price gouging?

I have a bunch of collectible figures of my brothers, but they list in the toy section some of them list for quite a high price cause they are collectible and I'm not selling to children or for children but for Grown Adults who want to finish out their collections... the figure was 4-6 something when it was in the store 20 years ago now it can run as high as 50-75 am I going to get a slap for price gouging?

Thankfully I sold all the HW cars in Feb would they have been on the list?

I realize I'll have to leave when I get "invited" to MP but I was hoping that once they got a 2 (or more) tiered system in place I could come back... if I get banned over 'price gouging' there is no coming back.

I hate photobucket right now... PS Answers given years ago may or may not be current now, please check with current posters to the boards to see if the information is still relevant.

Re: eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

I was all excited to see how many things I could get listed with the 50k FP +200 A/FP +200 A/FP listings...

Now I'm worried 2 or 3 of the wrong things listed (that should be 'wrong') are gonna get me in trouble.

Re: eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

I was afraid of this. Anything and everything is going to be reported as price gouging now if it's listed at 99 cents. I think this crises has pretty much killed the BIN...

@gracieallen01Yes I did. It is because of unscrupulous Ebay sellers. Did you hear about the seller from Tenn that hoarded all the PPE from every store for in a 3 state radius to scam people in a crises ?

@coolections

Yes, I heard about that one, too.  It is really interesting because people like that often don't think of themselves as being scammers or profiteers.  They are 'opportunists' or 'good business persons' or 'entrepreneurs'.  They don't think of the buyer as a sucker or a 'mark' or whatever the current terms are.  They think of them as just another buyer with more money than sense and 'caveat emptor' - the buyer is solely responsible for their purchasing decision(s).  Who's right and who's wrong is usually solely dependent on which side of the deal one is on - the 'good' side or the 'bad' side, but who decided which is which?  People are people, whether an individual, a platform, a corporation or a government.

Re: eBay removed my video game listing for price gouging

Yep, now we have to worry about buyers abusing the report feature, claiming everything is being price gouged. The OP's post is proof the new feature is already being abused.

Notice ebay told them quote, "It is obvious you are clearly taking advantage of the situation." Yet, we're talking about a video game here, not toilet paper and face masks.

I think what's most obvious is that ebay is making garbage assumptions about their sellers, and with no merit.
