Now buyers have 45 days after the seller sends them the return label to ship it back.
This change is retroactive and affects all open return cases.
The change must be very recent since I have noted the date we need to call eBay for a particular return and the date got extended by 30 days.
Is this in the 2021 Fall Seller Update? I must have missed that part.

(We should all be thankful that their IT department is not controlling the nuclear weapons systems.)
(How do we know they're not?)

We are aware of a technical issue which may be causing sellers to see an incorrect, extended date for buyers to ship their returns. We have not made any changes to our return policies. Buyers are not seeing the incorrect dates, and they will not have additional time to ship their returns.
We expect the issue to be resolved in the coming hours, and we will update this post if there are further delays.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As always, thank you for selling on eBay.

Thanks for the clarification.
I would not be surprised if they went to 30 at some point.
Though it costs eBay money in refunded FVF's if returns are completed. Probably why eBay is still at 15.
Yeah, but only if they can't figure how to make enough interest on it, first. Then they don't make profit on it but just break even when they return FVFs.

I think that's correct. Adyen handles the money in and out at eBay's direction. Presumably Adyen is the one making money off the float, however much it would be.

If that ever really happened it’s no biggy because you have their money.

This sounds very weird. If someone wants a return and I provide a label for them to ship it tomorrow, they don't ship anything back for a few weeks so I'm able to cancel the label and get a refund, and then on day 44 they use the label (which the post office probably won't accept at that point).
Makes no sense to give so much time to ship something back when a label is only really good for a short time. (My courier service drops off thousands of packages each day so they aren't checked... I sometimes print a label with today's date for something shipping in a few days).

It was actually 15 business days (3 weeks) when the pandemic hit. In reality, it was longer because they no longer automatically close returns. Every return that needed to be closed due to buyers failing to return the item, I had to contact eBay each time so it was actually close to 30 days by the time they got around to closing the return. I believe they changed it back to 10 business days (2 weeks)?

This post has been copy/pasted from someone else's comment on another website:
ebay just changed the deadline for the buyer to ship the return from 14 days to 45 days.
It has been identified as "Misinformation" on that website. Please stop copy/pasting things from other websites and posting them here.

Nobody needs more than 7 days to hand off a Return to a Carrier.
