eBay item removed due to counterfeit claims. Just be aware of these practices !

Hello as we are finding out eBay apparently has a internal items check list to verify if a item if counterfeit or not. We had a item removed due to the counterfeit policy. We sent them in invoices from our suppler to verify authenticity and yet even though the item is verified authentic and eBay did not disagree about that they said it still did not pass there internal policy checklist that they also could not tell me what it was. And this item can not be relisted ever. Do keep in mind this is a New PlayStation 4 controller that multiple sellers are selling and still listed currently. I asked if we the sellers do not know what is on your check list, what will stop eBay from saying any of our listings may be counterfeit because of not meeting requirements on this checklist ? Like i told them eBay is our only marketplace we sell on but due to this issue and the chance of items being blacklisted that are authentic i am forced to look at other marketplaces due to the fact that if eBay says a item is not authentic then we have no market to sell the product. In there response they said there was nothing they could do about it now and if we wanted to go to another market place that is up to our discretion.

It would probably be a good idea to follow eBay's recommendation.

If ebay thinks your item is counterfeit, weather it actually is or not, there's no amount of documents that will change their decision.

Ebay can remove any listing for any reason at any time. Sadly, you are between a rock and a hard place now with your item. Do not attempt to relist it despite others selling the same one. No, it is not fair, but eBay reserves the right to take whatever actions they deem necessary in their marketplace. We sellers have to adapt as best we can.

There is a button where another user can report your item as Counterfeit.  I wonder if that is what happened because there are many New PlayStation 4 controller for sale.

I can't comment on whose right or wrong, or whether ebay's methodology is sound, but I can presume why they won't disclose their criteria for flagging a counterfeit.  It's the same reason the IRS would not open their kimono and publish their audit selection algorithms.  If it's know what is looked for, crooks will find ways to circumvent the process.

In my case it was enough that some amateur that did not know what he was talking about reported my listing.

Got a message from some dumb collector that claimed i sold a fake where he linked to photographs of a completely different object that clear as day was not the same as i sold.. i made him realize this, but the listing got removed anyway, probably because he contacted me after reporting the listing in an attempt to validate his "expertise" or something.

No point trying to fight such cases because it is all automated and any low-level, third world employee you will get a hold of from ebay will be powerless to do anything about it.

Maybe their bots don't know the difference between a new PS5 controller and an older (but new) PS4 controller.

It seems anything PS trips their triggers these days, no matter what generation it is.

It is pretty common (and bad behavior) for competitors to report their peers same listings as counterfeit. eBay allows anyone that looks at your listing to send them a notification if they feel like an item is counterfeit.

It's obviously a broken system. Seller's get shafted again in the way this is handled.

eBay does not decide that an item is "counterfeit" based on the report of one person.

I just had 4 Coach Womans handbags and a Louis Vuitton bag taken down as fakes when they are 100% legitimate bags. Ebay makes it hard for people not to switch to other platforms to sell there merchandise.

If you find other sellers that are selling the same item that you had banned, the true scenario may be different.

It seems to be common practice with dishonest sellers to use an alternate ID to "report" a competitor's item as counterfeit to eliminate competition.

This coule be the reason your item as flagged whereas other sellers still have the same item active.
