eBay is now a 4 letter word for fraud
- they (eBay) can not provide their sellers a clear indication of selling costs
- it is like buying a car & never knowing what the price is until after you brought it home to show your family.
eBay infrastructure is covered by layers & layers of help menus and no actual human beings.
- there must be only 100 FTEs left (in the org) as it appears only 2-1/2 actual people are manning Customer Support.
- you find the callback # only to be never called back
- eBay then has the temerity to send you an email proclaiming that they couldn’t reach you
The one I really like is where they take your selling price, add all the taxes, throw on your Customers shipping, then apply eBay’s 12% sellers fee. And then add another unexplained 0.30 - because hey, why not right?!
- the other kicker is ‘selling the shipper’ a shipping label - why not charge both sides right?! 🥸
eBay is a clear case of caveat venditor - ‘let the seller beware’.
Who needs the aggravation! 👎🏻

Ummm... buying the shipping label here is a lot cheaper than going to the post office and purchasing the label there. Reason being is that you are getting the commercial rate here but if you go to the post office you will be paying the retail rate which is much higher.
Just sayin'...
As to the rest, you have the right to your opinion based on your experience.

@Anonymous ,
You obviously have not selling fees section of the website. All of eBay's sellers fees are listed there and explained in plain english.
You also obviously have never received payments from someone paying by credit or debit card. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover have always charge their processing fees of 2 to 4 percent of the total sale including sales taxes plus a swipe fee (30 cents in ebays case). Now that ebay has brought payment processing in house and contracted with Adyen part of the 12% FVF goes to Adyen which splits their fee with Visa, MC, AMEX and card issuing banks.

Sorry for your frustrations. The selling fees are spelled out here:
Before one hits the button to launch their listing live onto the platform, the insertion fees are provided on the listing page to accept or reject.
I find a lot about eBay aggravating, but the fees are not hidden. If they were not disclosed upfront, sellers wouldn't be able to set their prices accordingly to ensure a profit.

The only variables that I run into with my selling costs is the different "sales tax rates" , and shipping costs (paid by the buyer) that can not be exactly predicted, but by expecting the worst (about 10%) the FVF on sales tax can be estimated, as can the FVF on shipping paid by the buyer.

When I sold on ebay, I just wrote the name & address on the envelope or box and uploaded the tracking # from the receipt I got from the post office - no cost for shipping label or providing tracking numbers that way.

they (eBay) can not provide their sellers a clear indication of selling costs
If you are saying they cannot predict what state or country the buyer of your item will be from, whether he will find the item through a promoted listing, and what shipping option he will choose, you are correct.

I have never had a problem reaching someone to talk to at eBay. However eBay like most sites these days make finding human help a mission impossible. I had to chat with Amazon CS today. It took me several minutes before I unlocked the mystery of getting Amazon to call me. It is almost as if these sites are afraid if the phone number is out in the open, people will not use their help section and will instead call for every issue.
I do have a clear idea of eBay's fees. eBay's fees are pretty much the same thing they have been for years. The only difference is instead of PayPal the collecting the fees for payment, eBay does, which is where that .30 cents comes from. As someone who shops on countless auction sites, I can assure you eBay's fees are among the lowest out there.
eBay's help sections are pretty good and may times the forum sections provide all the answers you need. As to the shipping, it is far cheaper to buy your shipping labels on eBay. Many new sellers get upset when they see how much eBay takes from their sale, but if you are looking for eyeballs to see and buy your stuff, IMHO few sites beat eBay.

eBay has every tool available to it - to help sellers view their costs.
- asking sellers to make back of the envelope sellers calculations - is a **bleep** cop out
To those ‘hardened sellers’ on here, the amounts levied don’t always match, e.g.,
- my most recent sale, eBay posted a pre-paid shipping label b/o the pkg size I entered
- I measured and weighed the pkg and my weight was bang on (converted from lbs to kg, inches to cm)
- eBay (fraud) levied $19.xx for the label
- they come back, after the fact & now say it is $28.xx
- the statement that eBay seller fees are ‘deterministic’ are patently FALSE
fraud is now claiming Fed-Ex levied a higher shipping charge due to larger dimensions. Really?! Provide the Fed-Ex charges to prove it.
- further, buyer chose Post (Canada Post) but eBay (fraud) wouldn’t allow me to generate a label
- to get the pkg to the seller (on time) I had to choose Fed-Ex
i am done w/eBay and their **bleep**. Further, that callback service does not work - mysteriously I received calls from an unknown tel# that went straight to voicemail.
eBay the 🤡-show platform.

"the other kicker is ‘selling the shipper’ a shipping label - why not charge both sides right?! 🥸"
Are you saying that ebay should charge the buyer the shipping charge too? Lord, you need to stop selling and read the many posts here. You are doing it wrong if you are paying for the shipping.
I sell with 2 accounts and ALL of my buyers pay for the shipping. If I sell an item with free shipping, I ADD about 5 dollars to the starting price of that small, inexpensive item. So it will say FREE SHIPPING.
EXAMPLE.. 9.99 FREE SHIPPING (HOT WHEEL CAR)
Sometimes, I will list a car this way. 5.00 + 4.99 shipping. In both examples, the buyers paid the shipping charge. In both examples the ebay commission/fees is identical. If the 2 buyers live in the same county in the same state, they each paid the same sales tax.
Get a scale and a measuring tape and learn the postal rules on the bigger packages. They have surcharges. This way , you get a better idea of the shipping fees before you list an item.
One thing that I want to point out that I will sell the car faster with the 4.99 shipping fee! In fact, rarely does one of my hot wheels sell when it's free shipping. For some reason , it seems cheaper to the buyers when it does NOT say Free Shipping! Go figure.

Customer support reads from scripts. Very often , they will just read anything of a script. THey will agree to what you say just to get you off the phone. If you have an issue or question, post it here. There are many volunteers here that will respond and help you.

The post office shipped it for you for free?

"eBay is a clear case of caveat venditor - ‘let the seller beware’."
I'm aware and am okay with it. Basic business aptitude is needed to be a successful seller. Fees are calculable with basic math ability. EBay is a business. They exist to make money and turn a profit. They have employees, stockholders and people that use the platform. Trying to please all three is like getting kids to agree on an ice cream flavor. EBay is not a public utility. EBay is not a charity. You have to think of them as a silent business partner. Think of USPS that way as well.

Ok, please have eBay charge me the proper/indicated amount for my prepaid shipping label (should have been $19.xx (change) make it $20 - instead of the $28.53 they are planning to ding me for.
My pkg dimensions (as noted) exactly as entered.
🍿🤨

No excuse - I repeat - no excuse. I am not a charity either.
- I am seeking out a better platform as I write this.
- If one can not be found, there is a business opportunity to kick ‘fraud’ to the curb.
As already noted and proven (see my outcome/experience above), eBay selling fees are NOT deterministic.
