Just back from vacation. While gone, eBay messages one of my 3 accounts to verify identity ID by "uploading" scans
of the front and back of drivers license.
Selling account has been active for 4 years and 5 months. Managed payments for over 2 years. No defects, late deliveries, INR claims, no charge backs, everything handled on time and correctly per ebay's demands and requests.
So why an ID verification all of a sudden? Can anybody speculate on the cause? It only took 2 minutes
to do it, so it's not all that much of a hassle.
Isn't all of the info they need provided by me at the time I register to sell and signed up for MP?
My wife's theory? It was simply my turn.

"Can anybody speculate on the cause?"
You logged in and looked at your account from someplace different than usual... perhaps while on vacation?

Think your wife is correct - random bot selection.

Same. I've been selling for 17 years and this is a first however they do require it on new accounts now so it makes sense.

There are other threads posted on this recently so apparently, we should be prepared to comply. Wife could by right, usually are lol

We travel all the time and log in with our laptop everywhere we go. Not sure why people keep thinking that is the problem. People are on the move and eBay would have to cancel out half the sellers they have if you could only log on from one place.

We also travel several times per year. I also take my laptop with me to answer eBay questions and other
issues that pop up. I have 3 selling accounts and the bots (f that's correct) only hit on account #2
Account #1 has been selling for almost 23 years and account #3 about 3 years.
I like the random idea. Maybe it's just my turn.
I sent the photo Id as requested and eBay responded within about 10 minutes that "We verified your photo ID"

Have same issue been selling over 20 years have sent in the required info that they have requested but still just keep getting emails to update most times it just says to upload then it just goes to thank you for uploading the info, have banners all over site that funds are being withheld update by Aug 31 called into customer support you know how that went if you have been on here.
lost as to what to do but remove my listings as with no pay coming in not gone to ship out and want to avoid strikes against account

Just a heads up. Mess up on one account and all 3 accounts can be affected or even worse. Which is why I only have and need one account. I have read so many posts here about "why my account is turned off" and its usually from another account.

Your history on Ebay plays no part in signing up for Managed Payments and the approval process. Ebay has to adhere to some Federal laws and if we don't meet them in the info we give Ebay, then they will ask for more.
Typically they will ask for a Drivers license when they are having problems verifying your ID. Everything has to match up perfectly for them as the Federal laws require it. So you name and address on your Ebay account must perfectly match your bank account you attacked. Not a single character difference and no PO boxes for your address.
Below are some links that will tell you exactly what they need. If what you have provided them doesn't 100% match up then they require more info. Good Luck.

I want to know why they now have this policy? And no guesses please or questions why I want to know. I believe ebay themselves can post here.

Since eBay is now directly involved in payments they must comply with the Know Your Customer provisions of the Patriot Act (similar laws exist in most of the countries eBay operates in).
You can Google "Know Your Customer" to find lots of reading material on the subject.
eBay will never reveal the specifics of how, when and why they do the verification other than in very general terms. It would be like having a security system in your house and then putting up a sign that had all the details of your system for thieves to read.

This is a very old thread and will likely be closed very soon.
No guesses, they require these identification items / process because it is required by Federal LAW. Ebay is not the money processor for all its sellers. As a Money Processor there are certain laws they have to comply with. Below is a link that may help you better understand.
FYI The Community forum is member to member. It is rarely a place where someone from Ebay comes and posts. So you are correct, they can post here, they just usually don't.
