eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

I bought a dvd from a seller here on 11/18. He said delivery was from 11/27 - 11/30. He said it shipped on 11/19. Tracking showed it stayed in NJ as of 11/26 so I contacted the seller. He says shipping is 10-14 business days. Well if he had said that when I bought it I would have purchased from Amazon. So I checked his listings. The same dvd I bought from him which said “last one” was listed in his items still and said last one. I no longer have confidence in this seller or this purchase. I contacted eBay for a refund today since it’s beyond the delivery window. They write back saying by Dec 7 I will know something. That’s not acceptable as I feel eBay has no urgency to help me. I should have paid closer attention to the sellers bad feedback.

It's the holiday season. Things are going to slow down. Have some eggnog. Do some breathing exercises. Have a Happy Holidays!

What do you mean by saying, "Tracking showed it stayed in NJ as of 11/26". Is it bouncing around the NJ postal system or is it just showing label created? What did their handling time, for this item, say?

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

You bought it on 11/18.

When was it shipped?  I bet it was shipped right away.

It's obviously being held up by the USPS.

Not the sellers fault.

You want a refund while the DVD is already on it's way to you?

If you get a refund, what do you plan to do when you receive the DVD.

Are you prepared to send it back?

If you order the Amazon DVD and the ebay DVD shows up first, what then? Return the Amazon DVD?

My advice.  Relax and wait a few days for the ebay DVD.

Some post offices are open on Sundays. Mine is.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

If your purchase was from the big seller that last left you feedback - they are 1) located in the UK, and 2) their 95.7% feedback is that low for a reason. I'm just going by my experience purchasing books from that seller (and a few of the large other operations that use US/USA in their names, but tend to ship from overseas with DHL). Had one book, I kid you not, showed up after FOUR months! Some of those huge book sellers are also bookjackers (not sure what the term is for cds/dvds/other media), which sometimes causes stock issues.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

For whatever reason, anything I receive that passes through NJ stays there for extended periods. Of course, it’s happened enough times that I EXPECT it to. That’s ME.

But I’ve never docked seller for delayed shipping once it leaves their hands. I’ve never understood those who do.

I’ve shipped  from war zones that have arrived  faster than a lot of domestic shippers. And having said that, when it boils down to it…. It isn’t worth getting worked up over first world issues. It could always be worse… imagine if your seller was shipping that DVD while being hit with artillery. Or worse, YOU are that shipper.✌🏻

Yes, that's who I was referring to. I've never seen so many negs, all stating 12 to 14 days delivery times.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

That mega seller has a 4 day handling time on many of their DVDs.

The delivery estimates are Ebays when you buy not the sellers and I doubt that 11/27-11/30 was the seller's estimate. I would suspect that was the carrier or Ebay's estimate after he shipped.

I suspect he has inventory management software which is maintain an inventory level of one and most of the DVD's I saw he had listed show last one. It makes it a lot safer to avoid multiple marketplace synchronization problems and promotes a sense of urgency for buyers.

Assuming it really shipped, and the problem is at USPS in NJ, a common problem. sense of urgency or not, there is nothing to be done - YET

When a seller 'buys' a label, it shows 'shipped'.

I buy labels on Sunday, USPS picks up on Monday. Ebay shows it 'shipped on Sunday and the creation of a tracking number STARTS the Shipping Process when a SELLER pays for the label.

Shipping is 2-10 business days for Media and Ground Advantage. 2-3 days (although REALLY up to 5 days) for Priority.

That is ALL ON the USPS and NOT the seller.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

@jay19610

It can be especially nerve racking when things are delayed at this time of year.  There are however a couple of things to know about Ebay that the seller does NOT have any control over.

"He said delivery was from 11/27 - 11/30."  Unless you got an email directly from the seller, how did the seller tell you this?  Or did you actually mean it was stated on the listing?  The delivery window stated on ALL listings is an ETA [ESTIMATED time of arrival].  It is not an absolute nor is it a guarantee, it is an estimate of when you can normally expect delivery based on the carrier information provided.

"He said it shipped on 11/19. Tracking showed it stayed in NJ as of 11/26 so I contacted the seller. He says shipping is 10-14 business days."  If the tracking showed that they shipped it the 19th too, then that supports that the seller shared the truth with you.  When something gets held up in the carrier system, that is in no way ANYTHING a seller has any control over.  That is all on the carrier.

As for the shipping time of 10-14 days, that is pretty normal statement by USPS for something shipped Media Mail.  Not sure about the business day remark.  But your original ETA on your purchase was 8 to 11 days.  [11/27 - 11/30].

Purchasing on Amazon may or may not speed up the service.  It would depend on if you have Prime or not as well as if you purchased directly from Amazon or a 3rd party seller that ships their own stuff.

As far as a listing saying "last one".  A seller has NO control over that either.  That is an Ebay controlled thing.  When a seller has a listing that has multiple items for sale on the one listing and they sell all of them except the last 1 or 2 of them, then that note appears.  If that listing gets sold out and the seller finds another one in their inventory, then updates the listing with another item, the note is like to appear again.

You are intimating that the seller is doing something wrong.  It appears many things you blame the seller for are outside their control.  The can't control a package once in the hands of the carrier nor can they control certain things Ebay says on their listings.

As for contacting Ebay for a refund, just file an INR claim [item not received].  Ebay is not going to force a seller to refund something without the seller being able to respond to your concern.  Also if the tracking shows the package has had movement in the past 7 days, they won't force a seller to refund you either.

I get it that your item is not arriving as quickly as you'd like.  I respect that.  At this point it is one day late.

You are being unfair to your seller an unrealistic in what you are expecting from Ebay.  It is highly likely that your item will arrive in the next few days, just keep an eye on the tracking.  And know that you seller did what they were suppose to do in the timeframe they were suppose to take care of it.

Now is the issue of the Carrier.  Your seller can work with you on figuring that out.  It is too soon to file for a trace on the package with USPS, they won't allow it until it is several days late.

I hope you understand that no one has taken advantage of you.  Your seller has not done anything that would warrant damaging their feedback.  At least not yet.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

Yes, I'm fully aware of that. But if I print a label Sunday night and drop it off Monday morning where it shows accepted at the post office, I don't tell my buyer that I shipped it on Sunday just because I packaged it and printed a label.

Re: eBay doesn’t act quickly enough

The seller is located in the UK, not the US as they claim. They are not using the USPS.
