This is the second time these inadequate authenticators have screwed me out of an honest sale costing me around 3K. This time it was a BRAND NEW Jimmy Choo bag that I bought from the store myself. The “authenticator” claimed a laundry list of “defects” that just do not exist. The best part is that they said “the picture doesn’t show the discoloration” on the front of the bag. I just took the photo in great lighting! If it doesn’t show it maybe it doesn’t exist?? I’m so over this terrible platform and won’t be using it anymore! Almost two decades of selling luxury items and this is how they treat you!

So ebay wouldn't authenticate your item and that makes you mad.
Understandable but this is business. Don't take it personal.
Wouldn't ebay have made more money if the sale had gone though?

I have the craziest update for you all! I finally received the bag back from the “authenticator” and it was NOT in the condition that I sent it in!! I have no idea what happened, but my best guess is that the authenticator was either baking and had flour on their hands or was cleaning and had some other substance on their hands because the bag had white-ish smudges ALL OVER IT. Nobody in their right mind would EVER sell a bag and ship it like this!!! I honestly think their hands were dirty when they inspected it and got the substance all over it. There’s literallly no other explanation.
The GOOD news is that the bag cleaned up beautifully with my Handbag Spa products and is getting shipped to the buyer today. Does anyone know if I have any recourse or a way to put in a formal complaint about this “authenticator?” It really sucks feeling helpless with no way to let eBay know about this. Thank you all for your input and support as I navigated this crazy situation!

I sell almost exclusively in luxury and have for the past 15 years. Last month I had 2 cases, 1 almost identical to this one. A bag that was brand new (with the plastic protector on all hardware) and I received it back from the Authenticator with almost the exact responses you have. It would literally be impossible to have scratches… and there was zero discoloration but had that written also. I had no recourse when the bag came back, still brand new with all hardware wrapped. It was literally laughable. I also had a pair of Balenciaga sneakers come back and I literally purchased them myself. They had all labels still intact inside. Came back just ‘couldn’t verify authenticity’, huh?! Well maybe you shouldn’t be doing this job. I swear, I think sometimes they confuse items they are authenticating because it has happened to me more often than I can count. What makes it worse is that it’s our reputation on the line with the buyers and this sort of thing being sent to them is a huge issue. Who would want to come and purchase from us again after that experience.

That's similar to the picture I saw on the Facebook group post only instead of flour, it looked like soot or carbon! It looked like the white pocketbook had been used to clean a fireplace or had been dusted for fingerprints. It had black fingerprints and smudges all over it!
Like you said, no normal person would ever send out something like that.
I'm confused, though. I thought that if the authenticator approved it, they would send it to the buyer, but if they rejected it, the sale was cancelled and item would be sent back to the seller.
You can still send it to the original buyer after the authenticator gets it all dirty, rejects it, and sends it back to you? What did you tell the buyer?

I know from other sellers in private face book group's I'm in that they all raised same questions I've have about eBay not coming out about the Authenticator employee's having any qualifications ,experience and how many year's in retail also.
