And now the buyer is complaining because eBay's data is wrong. Why should I have to pay for data I did not ask for and did not want. And didn't even know was there?
.
Item number 284680741899.
Item specifics that I did not furnish or enter are incorrect. No one asked if I wanted that data there or even if it was correct. Turns out, it's wrong. I never enter how many gallons something holds because I don't know or care. But eBay entered it and the buyer says it's wrong and they want either money or a free return.
I did not make a mistake. So now who is at fault? Me for listing it here or eBay for adding data that wasn't correct or verified?

Going with eBay's rules and plans for sellers, I have decided on a course of action.
I am limiting eBay both in item type and quantity until I can be sure that such data is not added without my knowledge. My store is closed, many of my listings are pulled and for the foreseeable future-eBay is limited.
Say what you will, but no one else would be happy if they found themselves in my place right now. I have a buyer that wants to return an item or money back and either way, that's going to cost me a lot more than I feel responsible for. So, excuse me, I have a couple hundred items to list elsewhere.

Did you find a similar item on eBay and use the "sell now" feature as a convenience? If so, all the information that was entered for the listing you are using as a "copy" is pre-entered in the drop-downs. You either have to change it or remove it as the case may be for your item. 🙁 The only thing that doesn't forward to your listing is the written Description.
This has happened to me several times and is irritating as heck.

No. I did not use anyone else's listing or any old information.

I hate to deliver bad news, but once you clicked the button to create that listing, any errors are on you. Sorry.
Unless eBay has seen this before and will admit to their error. Yeah...

Ultimately the buck stops with you. In the eBay User Agreement, it says that sellers are solely responsible for information in their listings.
What data did eBay add, as i am not familiar with any ability for them to add any data to Item Specifics? But, by any chance, did you use Sell Similar to list your decanter? If so, the listing will be populated with the previous data from the original listing. Sellers must change any incorrect info prior to submitting the item to eBay.
EDIT: going to the slow typing corner. See you did not use Sell Similar.

I already answered that question. No, no one else's listing, no one else's data. I had no idea that information was being supplied by anyone other than me. I always leave that question empty.
Twenty years in December and this may be the end of eBay for me. I am beyond angry that something I never wanted was put in my listing. No one asked, the space was empty when I hit to list. This is seriously bull**bleep**.

Are you speaking about the section titled "About this Product"?
That is likely populated by eBay as a function of inserting the UPC or MPN number in your specifics which will display the eBay catalog information. If you entered neither of these, the info may just be auto inserted due to the Waterford/Lismore combination. The eBay catalog is very often incorrect and usually unfortunate for you that it is.
Since your product was "pre owned" and not new, the UPC or MPN should not have been a required IS.

As ittybitnot mentioned, when there is a UPC entered and the item is in the ebay catalog, it immediately adds any information in the catalog. I've seen a lot of reports of some of the catalog info being wrong which would be extremely frustrating. That is probably why some people avoid putting in the UPC unless they are forced to do so.

yep, from the catalog......always pays to check a listing after submitting it.....
I wonder what this means tho:
“Previously owned. Not marked Waterford. Last picture (drawing) is from eBay.
No drawing that I can see in the pictures.

You listed an item that is in the eBay Catalog, when you do that eBay will prefill lots of info.
There is an option to NOT include that information in the listing but the default may be to include.
You may have made a mistake, the mistake being not turning off the prefilled info insertion.
I list many things which are in the eBay catalog, I do not allow eBay to insert info (or pics) but rather use my own info. The attachment to the catalog still works regardless if you insert the eBay info or not.

Just check or uncheck the box that I described in my previous post. If you can't find that box perhaps you are using the simplified listing tool or the mobile app.
