I had half a dozen Blu-ray movies listed on eBay that I bought from Amazon, with Amazon Inc. as the seller, in 2009. I tried to sell these major Hollywood movies first because they were still sealed, but nobody seems to want them at any price including best offer. I had them listed on eBay for more than a year.
Recently I received a notice from eBay letting me know that they were taken down because they're counterfeit. I submitted the Amazon receipts as proof of their authenticity, but my appeal was denied. Apparently, according to eBay's crack experts, this 1.98 trillion-dollar company is a bootlegger and I'm their fence with my six stupid Blu-ray discs.
I've sold over 100,000 items on eBay over the last 27 years, with a majority over $100, with 100% feedback.

Did Amazon know in 2009 is the question. I have plenty of DVDs I bought on eBay over a decade ago that I believe are counterfeit. I didn't know at the time and doubt eBay knew either.
The internet is alive and changing. Online policing is forever learning and expanding. I remember when internet sales weren't even subject to sales tax.

Likely, your items were pulled for an easy mistake. It might be that these movies have been out of print for several years, and you are selling them as new. It might have been some keyword in your listing that triggered the disposition.

Amazon Inc. does not purchase and re-sell counterfeit goods.

I listed them as "still sealed," and they're not out-of-print. They're major Hollywood movies that are still sold by Amazon directly.
I'm sure they were pulled by a bot. But was the appeal handled by a bot as well, or an eBay contractor drone in a cubicle in the Philippines?

I realize that there's probably not much of a difference between a computer bot and a contractor drone, judging by case outcomes on eBay.

I have to wonder. I would be surprised if there would be even $5 left over after fees and shipping after selling all 6 discs. Major Hollywood movie discs tend to go to zero value pretty quickly. 98 percent of older movie discs out there won't clear a normal user $1 after fees and expenses.

I had been thinking the same thing about Value on movie DVD's dropping in value . the only movies that keep value are one's that are out of print after they been released on VHS only . There are lot of movies that never got released on both DVD & Blue-Ray ,but got limited release on Laser disc after VHS release .

Amazon cracked down & dramatically changed their dvd's & blu-rays years ago when pressured by Hollywood. It is possible you did purchase them before further details & systems were implemented. However, also doesn't mean Amazon was in the wrong either. When something appears, until the industry self polices, you always get volume of "very similar" discs. Hong Kong & Korea do quite the trade in them to this day all over ebay.
All you can do is list front & back, ensure the UPC is connected to it & hope its not delisted. If it's squashed - ur out of luck, donate them for tax credit & move on.

That is an interesting question. If you needed to account for the cost of the items for Internal Revenue Service (IRS) purposes, IRS would be curious as to why you don't have receipts.

I sell full time, keep records and pay taxes. I have very few actual paper reciepts for items I resell, this is completely normal in this industry and the IRS does not expect receipts for a handfull of discs worth almost nothing unless you insist on doing your reseller taxes in the worst way possible.
Cash accounting is the way you actually want to do your reseller taxes for 98 percent of us, and there are a few ways to work in that "old inventory" that predated the business.

I went ahead and did the math for you, if you managed to sell all of 6 of those movies today you would end up with a grand total of 84 cents after shipping, ebay fees, and shipping supplies. Not 84 cents per movie, 84 cents total.
The entire community is now underwater on labor time spent worrying about those discs. And if you hold out for more all that happens is that the prices will slip further.
