eBay Up and Running

I've been planning to purchase a store subscription for some time and this seemed like a good time to do it.  Has anyone here been able to trigger the promotion and actually receive the invitation email for the "up and running" promotion?

I was told to make a new business / seller account by ebay to qualify, so I did that.  I was told that the new account qualified by ebay support.  After 1.5 weeks, I hadn't received the invitation email, so I asked what I should do.  They said that they couldn't help, and that I should make another new ebay account.  So I did that.  I now have 3 ebay accounts.  I still haven't received the invitation email.

There is a good chance that the 'bots compared your IP address for those 3 accounts and said, 'Nope, not a 'new' seller, no invite'.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

I will say I have seen you say on occasion things that doesnt shine the backside of ebay. However 95% of posts I read, from you the ebay veteran mind you, is almost always condescending to sellers. This latest example just a few posts above to me.

"Oh my goodness.
Are you suggesting that huge for-profit corporations do what is best for themselves, and not necessarily what is best for me?
Please don't tell me there is no Easter Bunny"

In that statement I am saying that that eBay is a for profit-company looking after its own interests ahead of the interests of sellers.

Is that "defending" eBay, or simply reminding people that eBay is not necessarily their friend?

I spoke with eBay reps who confirmed that you didn't have to be a new seller / not a prior eBay user to get the offer.  They told me (in writing / email) that my personal account wouldn't qualify, and that making a new business / seller account was the way for me to get the offer.

I've been contacting eBay by email from all three accounts, being 100% open in messages about my primary eBay account / username / positive feedback record.  My messages to eBay were along the lines of "I made this seller account to get the "up and running offer.  I was told that my personal account xxxxxx didn't qualify, so I made this account...."

The offer finally triggered for this account a few weeks ago.  All's well.  It never triggered for the second account I made, and eBay's reps weren't able to explain why.  I think it might be because I took a 2-3 days to finish linking payment information for that account, so it may not have been eligible in the short window of time that the offer would have triggered.  I made sure to do it quickly for this account and everything's been fine.

kinda like cell phone/internet providers...new sign ons always get the better deals than the loyal long time customers who have paid thousands over that period  of time

Companies have to keep acquiring new business to keep going - sign-on discounts is one way of doing it.  It's never seemed even remotely unfair to me as long as they take care of their ongoing customers, as well.

In general:

How much good is the offer really?

With new seller limits what would be the point to having a store to start with?

Or do new seller limits simply not apply?

I hate photobucket right now... PS Answers given years ago may or may not be current now, please check with current posters to the boards to see if the information is still relevant.

Exactly right. They take old customers for granted and assume ownership.

That is why i change insurance agents and phone/cable companies anytime they offer others a better deal than they offer me.

The free store level I was given was "anchor."  Normally $350/month, or $300/mo with a yearly contract.  It comes with thousands of free monthly listings and a number of other useful perks:

https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/run-your-store/subscriptions-and-fees.html

And 500 commission-free sales!  Depending on what you're selling, that might not be much, but if you're selling some higher-ticket items, that's going to save you a heck of a lot.  On a single $500 sale in collectibles, you'd be looking at saving 9%, or $45.  On 500 x $20 sales in collectibles, you'd be saving $900.

That "anchor" store also comes with substantial fee reductions in some item categories depending on what you're selling, so if you sell more than 500 items before the offer ends, you'd be saving more, too.

For that alone I'd say it's worth it.

That said, there are some trade-offs.

I'm definitely getting fewer views on new listings on the new account.  I think that will change as I list more material and build up some feedback.

And my first best-offer on a biggish item was fraudulent.  I got a best offer that was $50 over the buy-it-now price from a pretty new ebay account with 2 positive feedback.

It's a known issue: new accounts with high-price items attract scammers, so...be careful:

All in all, I think it's a good thing.  I can still list items for sale on my old account.  Worst case, this is an experiment that costs  a little time and effort, but no money.  It's already saved me some.

The Up and Running promotion is a joke. They advertise 250 free listings per month. In reality you are limited to 10 per month until you sell 25, so effectively instead of 750 free listings over the three months, you get only 30. It is impossible to get your limit increased.
