Keynote starts at 9am PT, noon ET. If you haven't registered and want to attend, you can do that here.
This year's Expo booths shown below. Different product teams participate each year (and different sponsors). If you have questions or feedback for eBay on any of the following topics, you can ask them on the Q&A tab for that booth, or use the chat tab while a booth is live.
Hey @pjcdn2005 @sin-n-dex @marnotom! - there's an eBay Canada booth this year. That's new. Nice to see our neighbors to the north getting some recognition.
Edit: never mind. There was an eBay Canada booth last year, too - so that's not new. It's early and my brain's not at full function yet. 😂

All of the sessions in this first block are for less experienced sellers.
eBay used to label these sessions with "beginner" or "experienced" - I wish they did that this year because it would have saved me a ton of time where I could have been doing other things.

The one thing I thought was going to be interesting was the changes to SH.......but that flew by so fast, I couldn't keep up.......
Had trouble with posting in "booths"........finally got it. Have had to refresh a couple of times.

Second that. I thought of posting a few questions in the Compelling Listings session that just ended, but couldn't write something that didn't sound like sour grapes, so I decided to stay out of it. I did thumbs-up a couple of other questions that seemed good, but those were not answered. I'm wondering now whether the ones that were answered were voted the highest, or if she was just picking them at random (which seems to have been the case).
She demonstrated the listing process by copying someone else's listing for the same thing (a pair of Ray-Ban Cat Eye women's sunglasses), and I was rather surprised to see her yank the model number out of the title completely, rather than perhaps move it to the end of the title (it was originally the second term in the title) where a basic search would be able to find it. I don't recall now whether there was an Item Specific already showing the model number, or if it was removed completely.
She did "go there" (as I kind of expected) by using the AI button to post a paragraph or two of drivel in the description field, but I don't recall seeing the model number mentioned anywhere within it. I'll see if I can find a playback of that session and take a second look.

I'm seeing less questions answered this year than in past years.
I know we're still near the beginning, but if we're comparing this year's eBay Open to the last 4 Opens (starting 2020), this one hits the bottom of the list. By miles.

Me and a couple of other sellers traveled to the eBay Open meetup in Delavan, WI last night, and I will post a writeup of that separately when time permits. (Executive summary: pleasant enough, a ton of swag, but not really a learning experience.)

Yeah, those live events are more networking sessions than anything else and there are generally a few eBay employees so you can ask questions or give feedback.

So far, I agree............10 minutes for sessions..........10 min for answers doesn't leave alot of time for real info........

😂Last year’s booth probably didn’t see a lot of traffic, so I’m not surprised it didn’t immediately register for you.
Tagging @reallynicestamps for 💩 and giggles.

@wastingtime101 Thanks for doing this! I'm in and out of the office so much today that I'm missing a lot of it. Just ended up that way.

No prob @chapeau-noir . Stay tuned later - I'm going to post a bunch of Q&A to questions that have been hot topics around here.

All righty now, a summary of last night's event:
The eBay Open 2024 Kickoff Party meetup is now in our rear view mirror, literally, as it involved a drive from (in our case) the northwest suburbs of Chicago up to Delavan, Wisconsin. There was me and two other sellers in our van, and our destination was Delavan Lanes, which on Google StreetView looked like a local bowling alley. I was envisioning some kind of bare-brick, exposed oak beams type of place with assorted craft beers on tap and a lot of man-bun hairstyles, but it was, in fact, a local bowling alley.
We were cheerfully greeted by a number of local ladies running the event, though I don't recall meeting anyone officially from eBay. There were official eBay decorations put up and a couple of monitors set up to play eBay sponsor ads and a couple of short intros to the events of today and tomorrow. They had three long tables set up just past the bar (also staffed by the owner, an eBay seller), and that turned out to be more than enough seating; I would estimate we had about 20 people in attendance.
There was a ton of food. Not just little croissants with meat or cheese, but also hot dishes, sloppy joe mix, a pot of cocktail wieners, some truly massive deli sandwiches, and an official eBay cake for dessert.
We started out by watching a short video of ads by the sponsors, and the intro, and then it was back to our host. We were all issued ink daubers and Bingo cards with an eBay subject or activity in each square, and instructed to interact and network to get our cards daubed by other sellers based on their qualifications (e.g. Uses Promoted Listings, Ships Internationally, Has Attended Past Events, etc.). Anyone who asked me would have hit the mother lode of qualifications, but I tried to rein myself in and just mark a few on each.
Probably the most interesting part was the unscripted dialogue that followed. Our host invited us to go round each table, one at a time, to introduce ourselves to the rest of the group, explain what we sold and so on. Given that our headcount was only about 20, this went well and some interesting questions were asked. Some were more chatty than others and some were very helpful in relating their experiences, though one, perhaps a little nervous, brought the house down with her own introduction, which went something like, "Hi, my name is Monique, and I am an eBay seller. [pause] I'm sorry, this sounds like Alcoholics Anonymous..." 😄
It was not a long evening... they finished with a raffle (one of our party won a $50 eBay gift card) and a group photo, which was padded out a bit by bringing in a large stand-up cardboard cutout figure from the bar to fill in the back row, so if you see a collection of Kickoff Party group photos on-line anywhere, that's me standing next to Elvis.
We heard that eBay had told them to expect about 26, then that estimate ballooned to 59, but in the end we sellers were outnumbered by all the swag and sandwiches. The local bowlers coming in later that evening must have had a feast.
So, on to the swag. The biggest, nicest item was definitely the swag bag itself, a big, white, heavy-duty canvas bag with zippered closure and extra side pocket. As I set up the photo below, I started looking at each item out of curiosity to see where it was made, and this bag was rather proudly made in Lahore, Pakistan, coming to us through what appeared to be one of multiple promotion companies all stamping the eBay logo (except for the bag, which was nicely embroidered). There were so many knickknacks included (some in assorted colors) that I noticed a checklist had been filled out during prep, so that we would all get our share.
eBay Open 2024 Kickoff Party Swag
From left to right:
So clearly a lot of money has been poured into this event, and to be honest I was expecting a lot more people, given that this was the closest site to Chicago, but perhaps the where-the-heck-is-Delavan-Wisconsin location deterred folks from attending. That's too bad; it's a nice place and not hard to reach. Better luck next year. In the meantime, have some leftover cake; it was delicious!

Everything's better with an Elvis cardboard cutout. Thanks for the recap.

Thank you @a_c_green ! An excellent precis! kudos for spelling "mother lode" correctly. Also the cocktail wieners.
I recall at one work meeting we were having an all-hands (in our case, maybe 25 people) and it was squeezed in amongst an absolute avalanche of work. Our new boss, however, decided to do 'team building' and asked us each to tell the room something they didn't already know. Hurrrr... It ended when one woman said "I pick my nose and am good in bed." 😂

I will cheerfully admit that I first typed that as "weiners," but then thought "No, that doesn't look right." I think I have a pretty good eye for spelling; my bigger problem is that my brain gets ahead of my fingers, and I'm typing so fast that I leave out entire.
Space in my previous post was getting a bit tight, what with two photos already stuffed in there, so here is the Bingo card, if anyone wants to play:

I decided I didn't want to upload a bunch of screenshots from the Q&A so I'm going to paste the text version instead. These Q&As are mostly from the Expo Booths.
SELLER: Question/rant about offers and combined shipping that I didn't screenshot.
EBAY (Pavan Sannapareddy): thanks for reaching out. Buyer sending offers to sellers or Seller sending offers to buyers currently requires immediate payment and is a known gap. We are working on a new feature that is going to be launched soon where we provide shopping window for the buyers to shop more instead of paying for the items immediately. The buyer will see a option to shop more from the same seller when they are accepting the offer. With that, there will be time to send a combined invoice and buyer can pay altoegher with the discounted shipping.
SELLER: So as a follow-up, when the new functionality starts, buyers will be able to accept multiple seller-initiated offers within a time window for combined shipping. Will sellers be able to set the length of time in the time window?
EBAY (Pavan Sannapareddy): eBay is going to default the time window to 7 days. However, buyers will have an option to request for combined invoice earlier.. Or seller can send the invoice earlier as soon as the shopping is done.
---------
SELLER: Was the time for buyers to accept/reject an item extended to 4 days? I'm going on vacation next week, and that is indeed something I need to know.
EBAY (Neeraj Gupta): the offer expiry time for a seller initiated offer was changed to 96 hours (4 days) last week. This is applicable to US and UK.
(A few sellers brought this up and it was mostly a "we'll pass on the FB" response.
---------
SELLER: Regarding the new message system, when is eBay going to add the option that CCs messages to email? This is the biggest issue for me with the new format. I depend on messages - both incoming and sent - being copied to my email.
EBAY (Devijit Bedi): This is a feature that the team is currently working on! We're planning to have this available before the end of the year.
---------
SELLER: During the seller hub session they showed how we can see more info on our buyers, by clicking on their user name, like how many purchases. I don't see that info.
(This is about the Orders page and the Buyer Overlay - aka the pop up window that shows you things like repeat buyer history of purchases, etc. New feature being rolled out.)
EBAY (Pavan Sannapareddy): currently we are ramping up the feature and is turned on for 10% of
the sellers. Soon, it is going to be turned on to 100%.
---------
SELLER: On the Orders page, it would be helpful if eBay added some sort of flag or indicator if the sale is an eBay International Shipping transaction. Because I don't typically use packing slips, but they are required for els, it would help to have that visibility upfront without going into order details.
EBAY (Pavan Sannapareddy): That's a great feedback! We are currently working on showing indicating fulfillment types inline to orders and details explicitly and details about them in a overlay. elS definitely is going to be part of it. I don't have a timeline for it yet but I know it is going to come for sure. Hope that helps.
---------
SELLER: Some sellers have the Listing Quality Report in Seller Hub. Some of us used to have it, but no longer have it. What do I need to do to get it back?
EBAY (Shelley Ball): Thank you for reaching out. We are working on restoring this to more sellers.
Edit to add new eBay response:
EBAY (David Bernstein): As to the Product Quality Report, it's been available to a small number of sellers and rather than opening it up to more sellers, we are working on ways of providing the same info more directly in the places where you manage your active listings.
---------
SELLER: Question about the inability to create tiers on sale events - a change rolled out a couple months ago - did not screenshot the question.
EBAY (Shelley Ball): We saw relatively low usage of the feature and the technical effort to maintain it was extremely high. We hear the feedback from sellers that were using it and will consider that in our future roadmap for promotional tools.
---------
SELLER: Can you add total number of results, and also page numbers to the Product Research tool?
It's impossible to see upfront how many results you're pulling and whether or not we should apply more filters or remove filters.
ANSWER: No direct quote because this was answered live in one of the break out sessions. They essentially said there was fraudulent activity so they had to stop showing number of results and page numbers, and they'd like to add it back, but don't have a way to combat the fraud yet short of removing the info. Apparently it was one of a couple features (I can guess which ones) that they had to remove.
