You think the buyer will pay an unlimited amount for your item just because you want to make a certain profit margin???? Yes lets keep on offsetting to infinity.

Nope, I don't, nor have I said that.

Re: eBay Fees are too High

And that is even more true if the seller does variation listings.  Ebay never captures all of those in sold items for any given seller.

"If you have an item that retails for $100 and you sell it for $100 and still have to pay fees and shipping, then YOU have paid the fees and the shipping and you have left money on the table."

If a seller is paying full retail for something and then trying to sell it here to make money, most times it simply is not going to work out for them.  However with that said, there are HOT ITEMS during the Holiday season, especially in new toys and new electronics that go OOS at B&Ms, which enables sellers on sites like Ebay to sell them for an unbelievable amount of money sometimes.

But as a normal course of business, you won't be in business long purchasing stuff at full retail to sell here or any other similar site.

@richard1rst

Just looked at what you sell, light items with free shipping and that's good, but try to deal with a 20-pound item and you'll see the difference between shipping to other zip codes, the additional fees you pay for shipping can vary.

But that's entirely your choice. I sell heavy items too, but I list them all on CL for local pickup so that neither I nor the buyer has to deal with trying to ship them.

Re: eBay Fees are too High

I don't know about you, but I set my prices so that the customer pays for shipping and fees, not me.

Light item or heavy item.  It doesn't matter.

Isn't that how everybody does it?

The price is too high = I can't afford it.

The Venn Diagram is a circle.

Re: eBay Fees are too High

You can use Flat Rate/Free Shipping and  win on some shipments lose on others. Coconuts and roundabouts. The hope is that they even out at the end of the month/quarter/year.

Or you can use Calculated Shipping and the buyer pays exactly what the PO /other shipper charges you. This is safest for heavy or bulky items.

you can and will experience selling difficulties such as your current and alarming reduction in sales

Say what? eBay does not list each and every sale that each and every seller makes for each and every other seller to see. They only list enough to demonstrate what things are generally selling for. The "sold items" list in never a complete list. At least not to you.

That you disagree with my methods does not negate the validity of my methods.

You have 36 feedback in a month with 11000 items listed and you are showing how your sales increased 43% from the previous month as a way to refute what I wrote?? - You are kidding me right? Well anyway, thank you for helping to further prove my point.

Re: eBay Fees are too High

You guys are missing the point, you can set your price, but you can't control the fees on shipping and taxes because it depends on buyer zip code.

and the ONLY way to remedy this is to do the following:

Figure FEES on the FURTHEST shipping location with 10% (the highest) Sales Tax Applied.

If you are NOT doing this, then you are not doing this and you will lose.

Business is simple math.

What the...??? Mam I will never understand how you can read a post a TOTALLY miss the gist or point of that post... In no way shape or form was I referring to margins, profit, cost of goods, mark-up or ANYTHING to do with sourcing for investment... I mean the point of my post had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE - How could you possibly glean that from what I wrote? - You need to read it again - actually, please don't..

Re: eBay Fees are too High

But, again, it is entirely your choice to list these items on eBay (where you will have to pay the fees on the rather expensive shipping costs) rather than for local pickup.
