eBAy now removes negative feedback from a transaction if seller wins a dispute? what!!!!

I opened a dispute as a seller sent me two tablets for my kids however one of them was used not new as described and the OS was bricked, long story short the seller delayed me for two weeks on a decision for a repalcement when I urged him  that I needed these for christmas, he finally conceded to a refund not replacement which meant I would have been stuck with only one tablet for twin girls, instead I paid out of pocket to have a computer shop reimage the tablet.  I did not return anything and the case was closed in the sellers favor but lo and behold not only did they cide with the seller but they removed the ngative feedback I left!  What does one have to do with the other?

This is a huge breach of ethics! Never would have I imagined this could happen! No now I have to question wether any seller truly has the feedback rating displayed or has the many negatives been erased by eBay?  This feedback channel to me is used to let other buyers know what happened, quality issues and mostl importantly MY EXPERIENCE AS A CUSTOMER! This particualr seller even offered to bribe me with $10 to remove the feedback and I refused due to my strong ethics then eBay goes and does this! I am sorry but after 20 years on eBay this is just plain wrong and my buying habits are gonna shift big time.

When I contacted eBay they assured me it was a "technical error" which I didnt believe as this is the email I received.

Hi Rxxxxx,

Recently, you opened an eBay Buyer Protection case for Asus ZenPad S 8 Z580C-B1-BK 8.0'' 1.33GHz Atom Z3530 32GB Wi-Fi Black Tablet. We also received the feedback you left for the transaction, but it's been removed from the seller's feedback profile because of a recent decision on the eBay Buyer Protection case.

You can always view the case details in the Resolution Center or learn more about eBay feedback policies.

You opened a dispute.

You kept the merchandise (and altered it).

You did not return the item nor close the dipsute, so the seller was able to have the case closed in their favor.

eBay is correct to remove feedback WHEN A SELLER WINS A DISPUTE.  eBay doesn't read minds.  They see you as the non-performing one here.  For all they know you could've been shaking down the seller for some money.

Had you returned it or gone in and closed the case yourself, your feedback would've stayed.

You leave many soft positives and nitpicky ones as well as your negs/neutrals. It seems like Smaller than appeared in picture?!  That's unfair.   Also, the seller doesn't control the carrier's speed of delivery.   I don't understand leaving feedback for the shipping carrier in the seller's profile.

A seller winning a case is an excellent reason for feedback to be removed.  You could have easily won the case and had feedback stick.  Since you didn't return you lost

The negative feedback was for a DOA item nothing to do with shipping and the stall tactics that the seller employed.  Yes I could have closed the case and would have had I known the possibility for neg feedback removal.  This is the first time in 20 years i lost a case (I let the seller off by not re-sending the damaged item) and thought just leaving the case to lapse would auto close with no repercussions on my part!

This is a poor business practice and now I  will take the fb ratings in low confidence before  I ever purchase another item from eBay.

That is not true for amazon, who only removes a neg for profanity.

On etsy, if feedback is left before the 2 days is takes for the cancellation process, it will not be removed.  Feedback there is removed for profanity or complaint only about 3rd-party services.  Also, neither of those sites has buyer feedback.

Well to be fair, this one doesn't either.

That might be a very good idea as I see you seem to buy a lot of stuff from China... notorious for shipping that takes ages and ages to arrive, sometimes because it's been shipped slowly because of the mass of orders they do get, and very often simply because it just takes that long.

Lots of merchandise from China is cheapie junky merchandise, so although the photos seem pretty enough, there's a disappointment waiting when the package is opened.

Many China sellers are adept at getting unhappy buyers stalled long enough to make it past the length of time that negative feedback can even be left, and are also very adept at getting it removed, either by paying a buyer to remove it, or by finageling eBay to do so, one way or another.

Most China sellers are VERY good at knowing eBay policies, and knowing exactly how to apply them, which is more than most eBay buyers do.  So even when buyers are very well protected, they often do so much wrong that they ruin any chances they might have had by their own handling of their complaint so poorly.  Truth.  Sorry about that.

You have left a whole lot of negative and neutral feedbacks for sellers over these past years in proportion to your received feedback numbers, but even more than that is that so often the positive feedbacks you leave have little digs and picky and even negative comments attached, so obviously THOSE didn't quite please you in one way or another either.

I think many of those are also sellers from China, so I might suggest that just because the prices are cheap, you might be happier in the long run to buy a bit less from sellers you are so often unhappy with.

eBay has many processed automated. Based on how issues are handled, they are generally resolved in a normal manner.

In this case is did not proceed in a normal manner. By that I mean what others have mentioned. Return for a refund as soon as the damage was found and look for two more laptops.

Because you chose to get the laptop reimaged, the case had to be closed in the sellers favor. As a result, the seller is allowed to as that the feedback left by the buyer be removed.

Millions of transactions a day occur on eBay.  They cannot handle the exceptions, just the rules.

@bay$
I can tell by your user name you’ve been here a long time. Probably as long as I have. I’m sorry you had a problem but I’d think  you know how buyer protection works.

Happy Holidays! 😀

....now I get it! You guys are all sellers! Nope these items were from the good old US of A. I have shifted 100% of my China buys to Aliexpress, they get here in 2 weeks or less, zero hassles (no deleted feedback).  Amazon next for all of my domestics buys and lastly if I cant find anything else on the planet will be eBay.  Sionara sellers!

So you post on a board called Selling and are surprised the majority of your answers are from sellers? LOL

Oh and good luck in your future experiences with Ali.

I'm more of a buyer these days. And many of the other on here aren't sellers either.   There are buyers who abuse the system.  A buyer who opens a case and then doesn't return loses a case simple as that.  A case that is decided in the sellers favor any feedback is removed as it should be simple as that.

While this is a somewhat nebulous point. I take exception to the thought regarding a clear thinking buyer... as mentioned somewhere. It does give me a segue to add.

My opinion is there are far too many buyers who use the all encompassing,  Item Not as Described are doing so to cover a multitude of ways to get a refund which in some  too cases involves deception and fraud. They know they are, as buyers immune to receiving a negative feed back and many have gotten refunds and kept the merchandise.

Therefore,  the phrase  clear thinking buyer  clearly isn't appropriate for those who purposely lie cheat and steal.

Touche.  🙂

The only site I know of where buyers can receive honest feedback is eBid.  And there, leaving neutral or negative feedback is one of the prerequisites to being able to get your final value fees back if you have a deadbeat buyer.

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

No, I am not an eBay seller anymore, or much of an online seller, however, once the item was altered, the seller was under no obligation to accept the return.  Buyers cannot purchase an item and alter/wear/use an item and expect for any seller whether it be online or in person.  The choice was done by you to "reimage" it so not it is yours.

Happy Holidays to you

Yes, this definitely sounds like a very good decision and will certainly work out the best for ALL concerned.  Your shopping venues are in just the opposite order from mine, but no matter the sites, everyone wants transactions to be hassle-free on both sides of the process!  Hope all of yours can be more satisfying for you from now on.
