defect rate is a scam? why would ebay use it to limit listings?

So eBay claims I have a high defect  rate (4 items in one year) , one they were willing to address because it was recent (in April) and remove. However as soon as I complained and removed it, the system "decided" I was in under performance territory for too long and imposed without warning a selling limit on my account. Never mind that sales data is wrong, never mind that the defect number was wrong, facts simply do not matter. Spoke to many people who passed me to each other, with Matt being the latest one and the most obtuse who hung up on me. I have currently 20 pending shipments to make, and 9 bids . I feel like shutting down the operation completely. and to hell with ebay and the buyers. I know that 30 **bleep** off customers is nothing to them but what else can I do? I had about 600 listing this morning before my initial call, but as the none sold auctions come to an end, they are not being renewed. THERE is no one to talk to.....I am down to 550 now, and will be down to 285 by weeks end. I understand ebay using this as an excuse to overcharge, but by limiting the listings number and your sales they are insuring you will stay under performing (its a percentage) Amazing, and illegal.  All my work, listing and storing is going to hell. No warning .....any ideas out there? Maybe some one who can actually solve this in eBay can communicate with me? If anyone in ebay is listening please contact me. Are they so big that they totally don't give a darn about their customers?  For one thing, I am dumping this stock now....

You have a 2 day handling time … and 2 sold items in the past 2 days. How does that equal 20 shipments to make?

as the none sold auctions come to an end, they are not being renewed

You listed/relisted almost 100 items today (June 19th) and a bunch yesterday (June 18)

No warning

Your dashboard is easily accessible.  As are the Seller Standards.

Amazing, and illegal.

Not only is it not illegal, but you actually agreed to it:

"Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion."

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/user-agreement?id=4259

For one thing, I am dumping this stock now

That will actually help eBay, because they are in the middle of a stock repurchase initiative. At the start of the 2019 they had over $3 billion remaining of their stock repurchase authorization.

Are they so big that they totally don't give a darn about their customers?

They are probably big enough that they can afford to weed out some of the sellers who attract too many problem transactions.

Dumping stock means giving up on dividends from a company that has historically been solidly profitable.

Defects lead to higher fees, loss of status like TRS and its perks, restriction on the number and/or value of listings, and if the seller doesn't learn from the punishments, removal of the ability to sell.

Defects happen, among other reasons, when a Dispute is not dealt with promptly by the seller.  Feedback is not counted against a selling account, but indicates to future buyers (and posters on the Boards) that the unhappy buyer did not understand the Dispute system and is complaining without getting redress.
