I am trying to sell on eBay again, but my old account has a lot of negative feedback from a few years ago. I am wondering if it makes sense to just start over or is there some other way to clean up this account. Even with the negative feedback I still have a score over 2000 and power seller icon.

That feedback is pretty bad and I wouldn't use the account to sell.

1- Have you fixed whatever issues you had that caused these problems in the first place?

2- Are you allowed to sell on your account or did eBay ban you from selling? If you were banned you will not be allowed to create a new account to sell.

3- Have you familiarized yourself with the current selling policies and seller metrics?

If your answers to all 3 are yes- then create a new account to sell. You can buy several items with the account so you're not jumping into selling with 0 feedback.

You could give it a go if you're not banned from selling.

Some buyers don't look at feedback, some buyers knowingly purchase from sellers who have got thousands of negs, so you've got a chance..

If it doesn't work you can register another account...

Even if you know how and why you messed up that account so badly, you are still best off to make this high feedback account strictly for buying and start a new one for selling.

It will be a slog, your customer payments will be Held for up to 21 days against your good service, you don't have a record of trustworthiness to encourage buyers (but no record is better than the schlemozzle you made of this account), and your customer demographic is not an easy-going and forgiving one.

But as Baretta said, "If you can't do the time...."

Any potential buyer that clicks on that account and sees the feedback will immediately hit the back button!!!! If you have turned over a new leaf, start a new account and take care of it. The old account is way beyond fixing and will be with you for a long time if you are using the same address, ISP, or PayPal account.

as far as i know from cs is that a negative or neutral feedback get remove after a year from the system but i am really shocked to know that your feedback is still there 😕 its ring bell again to reconfirm with cs about it, may be feedback policy was different when you had it it could be a reason why its still showing there, and i do not know if new policy can overlap previous transactions covered by previous policy.

While you can change your selling ID I fully believe your IP address & performance report card will follow you no matter what name you go buy.

Don't know how long a few years ago really is to some a few could mean 10 or more some a couple or more. But there was a time eBay rated sellers by Feedback score & DSR ratings & some other factors. If it was too low eBay could ban a seller from selling for like forever.

Feedback is "counted" 12 months prior to the current day to determine your percent rating- but the comments are never removed from your page.

It's there in perpetuity. But your percentage and graphic only calculate based on the last running 12 months.

The feedback of members who left you bad feedback but were suspended within the first (I forget how many) months of becoming a registered user, used to disappear, both positive and negative. But years ago eBay quit doing that and never announced the change.

I think you misunderstood what the customer service rep was trying to tell you. Positive and negative feedback comments are computed into your feedback percentage for 12 months; however, the comments themselves are never deleted from your history.

If you start a new selling account be aware that you will have selling/listing limits.

Springing for the cost of a "store" will not increase the selling/listing limits.

Being a "power seller" just means buyers will have to wait 7 days to neg you.

This is also true if the OP were to use their current account- last FB was "over a year" ago so they would be treated as a new seller with payment holds and lower listing limits- assuming they haven't been banned, of course.

You were cruising along nice and easy for a good amount of time until you hit the first page of 200 feedback comments, half way through the first page things go all lopsided and pear shaped.

Clearly something big happened in your world one way or another, I hope that you're through it now.

If it were me I would begin afresh, that first page will hurt you.

Another option would be to run two accounts, start again if you are able with a new account and also operate the old account in an effort push the sea of negatives downwards to a point where they are not as clearly visible as they are right now.

Feedback remains visible for all eternity. after 1 year and no longer affects your feedback percentage.
