being able to leave a balance in your managed account

I have not seen any way to leave a $$$ balance (of my choice) in my managed account. With some dollars left there, I can pay for postage without having eBay use my bank account for payment. For instance, I have a few sales to ship on Tuesday morning and they ebay cleared my account earlier in the day.

eBay will implement a digital wallet next quarter. See an announcement here:

How often do you sell?

I have sales every day.

When I print/pay for  shipping labels sometimes my balance is zero.

In that case my balance goes negative.  Not for long.

Just until I have more sales to bring the balance back up to positive.

They have NEVER taken money out of my bank account.

eBay has a specific type of money service license.  It does not allow sellers hold funds in a PayPal type wallet.  I suspect in the near future it will but not yet.

Just read that, finally, I too have been getting nervous the past month or 2, ebay has been approving payments pretty fast and even weekends, but after say a long weekend, come Monday funds run low for paying shipping labels and god forbid store fee comes at the same time.

I think the wallet will boost sales also..........many small sellers, who were used to "hiding" the income from other family members and using it for whatever they wanted, got "busted" when the money went to the checking account......   Don't mean to sound accusatory...... but spending the "egg" money was less painful than taking it out of an account which might be more family orientated.

I simply purchase the postage out of pending funds that the buyer just submitted payment for.

I don't understand these posts either.   I have never had money taken from my bank acct either.  My acct may temporarily go negative on Tuesdays if the payout has already occurred & I have labels to ship from the prior night's sales, but Ebay has NEVER gone to my bank acct to get the money.

@dbfolks166mt  It can happen once a week if you haven't purchased labels from your prior overnight's sales & the payout happened before you printed them or maybe even woke up :-).  The funds are no longer there to get it from the payment.

I wonder if sellers are treated differently on this based on their rating or longevity or something. Obviously, if sellers are using daily payouts, this situation occurs a lot.  For me, it only occurs once a week & then, not every week, but it's odd that Ebay goes into bank accts for some sellers & allows others to run a negative balance, like me & @inhawaii .

I am setup for daily payouts and I have NEVER had eBay complete the funding transfer before I managed to print the shipping label. Of course I guess if you have a long prep time between when you sell the item and when you ship it I could see it potentially happening. I always ship within one business day of the buyer paying.

@dbfolks166mt

I normally ship next day, so it's got nothing to do with long prep.  I'm on weekly payouts, but it still happens fairly regularly.  It's simple - people buy on Monday night when I'm sleeping & when I wake up on Tuesday AM, less than 8 hours later, the payout has happened & there is no money in my account for payments.   If you're on daily payouts, this is a nightly risk.

Do you not sleep?  Or maybe it's happening & Ebay is just covering you, like they do me & allow the account to go negative for a little while so you've never noticed it?  I don't see how it could never happen if you're on daily payouts.   Unless you have employees that ship round the clock or never sleep 🙂

My account never goes into the negative. Odds are that if you look at your payments you will see the funds for the item you are trying to ship in a pending status rather than payout processed. The days of instant payouts went by the wayside when eBay converted to MP. When I do receive the actual payout it reflects the deduction of the shipping cost.

The last item I sold the buyer paid on the 6th of March, I purchased and printed the shipping label on the 7th. The actual payout to my account was processed on the 8th I checked several of my sales and the timeline from buyer payment to payment processed to my account for all of them has been at least 3 days. It takes another 1-3 days before it actually shows up in my bank account.

@dbfolks166mt  I don't think so & I've definitely seen it with a negative balance on Tuesdays, but I have not looked at it in detail b/c Ebay always covers it, so maybe that's why they cover it, b/c the funds are still technically pending.   Perhaps that's why they've never drawn from my account.  I'll look next time it occurs.   Perhaps that's why they cover some people & not others, the 'others' not having a pending payment.

To avoid the problem you just had, I pay for my eBay labels via my PayPal account.

That's just a personal choice, as I'd rather not have MP pulling from my checking account--even if it doesn't happen often.

Every few weeks I check the balance in my PP account and move enough money for label printing from my checking account into my PP account.

I'm set for daily payouts too.

My account is always in the negative.

Funds get transferred to my bank account around midnight. That brings my balance to zero.

I usually print out shipping labels after midnight so my account then goes negative...

just until my next sale or two, which will bring it up to a positive amount.
