One of the biggest issues on Ebay is customers using a "freight forwarding company" (IE a drop shipper) or "3rd party" to received their items.....
I need all sellers to understand.. your customer is voiding their Ebay money back guarantee protections when they ask to ship ANYWHERE other than the address verified on their account....
The frustration on this occurs when a case is open, the Ebay AI doesn't know the ToS rules of 3rd party shipping, and will still find in the buyers favor on any INAD or not received cases. Please, for the sake of your business.. call Ebay in these circumstances and show them what I am about to show you below.. the seller is not required to fulfill any form of refund or return on an item that was not sent to the physical address of the buyer. Period.
Here is the source of what I am saying for everyone to review:
Why am I writing this? I am watching people on other threads give completely wrong advice to people stuck in this exact situation. They shipped an item, it didn't say delivered.. Ebay AI sided with the buyer, seller found out a 3rd party received the merchandise, and they lost $300.... people are replying to that seller telling them they were SoL... they were not. They just needed to know their own protections.
PS... please do not use this information to deceive or con your customers.. this is in place to protect sellers, not to be abused.

One caveat: freight forwarders and drop shippers are two entirely different animals.

IF the item was never delivered to the address, eBay will side with the buyer.
This is where you are incorrect.
IF the item is never delivered to the address on file the buyer will be refunded.
It doesnt matter if it is a FF or a UPS store or a house. NO delivery and the buyer gets a refund.
Sellers have zero protection from items that do NOT show a delivery scan.

"freight forwarding company" (IE a drop shipper)"
Not the same thing. Drop shipper stores then ships the items you own. Freight forwarding is what sellers send to for items bought by buyers in other countries and then is shipped to the buyer from there. Freight forwarders do not hold or sell merchandise for the seller.

The concept of "verified" addresses no longer exists. The seller's obligation is to ship to the address received with the payment; that's all. That Ship-To: address may be the buyer's registered eBay address or anyplace else (and to a different name as well), but they have to provide that information with the payment, at payment time.

You seem to misunderstand the policy almost as much as the people you are trying to inform.
Sellers are protected from false INR claims by a buyer AFTER delivery to the forwarder and buyers are eligible for protection for INR claims BEFORE delivery to the forwarder.
Delivery = Online tracking showing delivery from a shipping company integrated into eBay's systems (USPS, UPS, FedEx and dozens of others).
Into your life it will creep

It is as simple as this. If the tracking shows delivery, you are covered. If not, you aren't.

Question:
What is the difference if a seller ships to the house that I live in at 1234 Main Street, Anytown, USA -or- to my freight forwarder at 1234 Main Street, Anytown, USA, who will in turn send it to me in Portugal?
As long as the tracking shows it was delivered to the US address, isn't each scenario the same thing?

Yes. The delivery to the address eBay supplied means an INR will not succeed.
But.
If the purchase is then sent on from there, whether by a professional forwarding company in Doral FL, or Auntie Ekatarina in Brighton Beach NY, then a Not As Described might succeed, BUT the buyer can still be required to return the disputed item.
And.
If the seller is sending a Return Shipping Label, it goes to the address the seller shipped to... the forwarder.
It's up to the buyer to get the disputed purchase to that address, attach the label, and show proof of delivery to the seller, within the deadline.
Which is possible.
Not likely.
But possible.
So both technically and practically, a buyer using a freight forwarder will not be covered by the Money Back Guarantee.

The difference is that buyer protection is voided after the item LEAVES the freight forwarder. The seller is ONLY responsible to getting it to the address in the payment. I will say that years ago, Paypal made an error and refunded a scam buyer in Brazil. Tracking showed delivered to the freight forwarder. He claimed that I sent an empty 4 lb. box. I appealed and Paypal had to refund me since they made an error.

For an Item Not Received dispute, both are the same thing; yes. For a Not As Described dispute, a buyer residing at the delivery address would be covered under the MBG; a buyer who had his purchase forwarded to him in Portugal from the delivery address in the US would not.
It still gets muddy as to whether the seller has to prove that the item was forwarded to Portugal, and how to do that, but the point is that the type of dispute has a bearing on how it can be resolved.

No, that is wrong.
The buyer can have it shipped to whatever address they provide when they pay, doesn't have to be their account address

doesn't have to be their account address
EBay and Paypal used to call those "gift addresses" and they were common around Christmas.

You are correct, sir.
Whether that address is your house, mom's house, aunt ginny's house, or a freight forwarder.

Why would ANY seller ship something without a tracking number and if they DID ship it with a Tracking Number then the item would show as DELIVERED.
Seller 1. Buyer 0.
Game Over
This entire thread makes no sense....to me.
