So I sold a thing. The day after the auction I messaged her saying I would ship the item out as soon as payment was made. Later that day, more than 24 hours after the auction ended, I hadn't heard from her, so I asked if she still wanted it. If not, I could second chance offer it, no big deal.
She messages back: "Fine offer it to the next bidder I won't do business with you I just got back in town and yesterday was a holiday I haven't even got a chance to log in"
Uhhh. okay. The holiday was MLK day. I didn't realize people put their computers and phones away then.
I message back saying I was just asking because I hadn't heard anything from her.
She says go ahead and cancel the order and she's not buying from me. She'll buy from someone else who cares about their customers and it sounds like I'm hurting for money. Oh and that I should be nicer next time so I keep customers.
Wow ok. I told her I wasn't a business and I am hurting for money because I'm getting married this year and I'm scraping all the money I have together to pay for it.
Anyway, she left negative feedback saying I demand payment 1 minute after auction ends. 24 hours is a minute apparently.
I set up a cancellation and she hasn't responded to anything. She has 0 feedback and has only had the account open since september, so what do I do? eBay customer service is horrible apparently. I can't find anywhere to contact them through email or phone over this matter. I feel bad for anyone who sells stuff on the regular.

Always hard to predict how anyone is going to respond to a post sale message. The sweeter they are the better the outcome. In general.

Girl, you gotta make 'em want to puke from kindness! No matter how nasty and snarky they get, you have to be all blossoms and butterflies.
It stinks for those of us who want to school the nasties, but that's the way it has to be. Type what you really want to say, DON'T SEND IT, delete it, and then type what you actually need to say instead, if anything. I've learned the hard way that the less communication you have between buyer and seller, the better.
Thereare exceptions, of course. Some buyers are extremely kind and courteous. Those are the ones that make what we do worthwhile.
The kind and courteous would have responded most likely with--Thanks for the reminder--will be paying for this asap.

You hit the nail on the head. EBay discourages communication these days. Many of us long timers don’t like it at all but we can’t change it. I miss chatting with buyers & sellers during a transaction and afterwards. I’ve met some wonderful people through eBay & a few not so great. I’m really sorry you had a problem.

For years, I sent “I see you received your widget. I hope you like it” messages. Typically because the buyer & I had been communicating through the transaction. It’s hard for me but I don’t send those messages anymore.

So true, so true. There was time in the working world when I would profusely thank a customer for his/her patience when the fact was they were not showing any.
