Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

For those of you who have not done this yet............. Set up your auto feedback and include a pleasant message on your packing slips stating the Buyer will receive positive feedback automatically when they leave positive feedback for the Seller.

For years I've been a manual feedback seller.  When a Customer left me feedback, I gave them feedback. I never felt the "deal" was done until the Customer said so using feedback.  With my line of products I had found I received roughly 25% to 30% feedback.

A few months ago +-..... I set up my auto feedback to give Customers their feedback when they left feedback for me.  At the same time, I set up a "Message from Hurley_Byrd_IAS" that prints onto each packing slip.  The message simply states that eBay will automatically give the Buyer positive feedback when they do the same for us.

NOW.......  I am getting a LOT more feedback. I have not crunched the numbers yet but my feedback ticker is consistently going up faster. Wild guess, I am over 40% now.

One other note, I have pre-populated my pre-writen feedback lines and I have found eBay simply runs through that list and gives each Buyer a different line each time. It works really well.

Re: Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

I leave feedbacks for anything cheap that I sell usually immediately .

Expensive items I expect the buyer to leave feedback first.

Any buyer leaving a nice feedback I leave a 'response' to their feedback.

'Thank you for your purchase.'   I started this and it has given me more feedbacks.

Re: Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

You just reminded me of a feedback I got yesterday for a purchase I made on the 13th, auto it seems. They had 4 available, 3 sold, I got the last one.

"Perfect transaction, thank you! Would appreciate your feedback too."

Today, I get this message:

"Dear Customer, A recent batch of your item had a Quality issue. We're pausing shipments for 7–8 weeks for quality checks. You can either wait or cancel and reorder laterDear Customer, A recent batch of your item had a Quality issue. We're pausing shipments for 7–8 weeks for quality checks. Real slick. So I say no, I don't want to wait until Autumn for my beach umbrella so I would like a refund.

1000% believe that they are going to say that I cancelled the order in the reason, instead of it being unavailable/out of stock.

That's when an automatic fb can bite you in the butt.

In contrast, a lot of sellers I buy from will enclose a business card.😃

Does it, though? Buyer feedback doesn't mean much, and a seller isn't damaged if they leave FB first and the transaction goes sour. It's just another meaningless FB in a meaningless system. I've had it happen and it doesn't bother me in the least because it's just a handshake.

None of this is personal and nobody gets a prize.

"Would appreciate your feedback too."

works well if everything goes according to a seller's plan. In my case it didn't, so "appreciating my feedback" isn't going to garnish them a rave review.

You are entitled to your opinion, but as many on here say, feedback and seller responses, are not for the current customers, but for the future ones. It's not personal. It's business.

I understand and that's fine. I'm just saying that this FB will disappear into all the rest where no one knows, and no one really cares, so I dispute that it's biting anyone on the butt or really doing much of anything, much less causing someone to go back to match the feedbacks of buyer and seller. I personally wouldn't change my habit of leaving FB when I ship because of the possibility of a periodic poor transaction - that would be me predicating my business practices on the 1% or so bad transactions rather than tailoring them to the 99% good transactions. Others will do differently and that's fine.

ETA: LOL - that's what I keep telling people about this - it's NOT personal, it's just a bit of housekeeping, but some still maintain that they're somehow injured over it...somehow.

I don't do a packing slip.  I too enclose a Business card that doubles as a Thank you card.  I've done this for years.

Re: Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

As a seller, I try to treat my buyers as I want to be treated.

Hence, I leave a thank you feedback when I ship.

As a buyer, I used to leave FB when the item was received.

But I've stopped doing that and now leave FB for only those sellers who have thanked me for my business.

@hurley_byrd_ias

But when you buy something at store, does the checker wait to thank you for your business until the return period expires?

Re: Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

I usually leave FB for sellers (I can be a little absent minded), but I don't care if they've left me feedback or not. Honestly, what other people do doesn't influence me that much, I just do what I think is right and that's the end of it.

I leave fb upon shipment too. It's just easier and something I've done for all of my retail years. Surprisingly, I've gotten some nice feedback from people that have had everything go wrong too. Those are always especially nice to receive (and those I do take personally).

Yes - I think in many cases it sets a positive tone and buyers are more likely to communicate with any questions or concerns.

Re: Working Well - Auto Feedback and Packing Slip Message

As a Seller I always figured everyone has their part to do

1. as a Seller our job was to get them what we advertised Photographed and promised at a reasonable price and time. Once they receive the item, in the condition it was when it was listed. then our job was done.

2. as a Buyer their job was to pay us for the item which is what we really care about. And We Give them Feedback. now its up to them to follow with the feedback. Doesn't really matter to us if they don't leave feedback unless its negative then we continue to have to deal with it.

Not sure that making a Buyer leave feedback first is what I care about Pay for the item and be honest about it when You receive it. Too many buyers unfortunately now are buying items just for the purpose of leaving negative feedback to hurt the competition . and the Seller unless they can prove it are helpless to do anything about it.

Back in the Good Day Negative Feedback was supposed to be a self Policing platform to warn other buyers that if you dealt with the Seller there was a good chance of you losing your money and being harmed unfortunately it has morphed into way to hurt the competition and seller if you just don't like the way they brushed their teeth that day.
